no offense to glenn howerton, but i'm kinda glad that AP Bio got cancelled (even he wasn't able to elevate the 'meh' material that much, so I didn't care for the show at all)...so he can focus fully once again on Sunny. fuckin' pumped for whenever the next season drops.
jesus, that mediocre show just won't die for some reason...
I don't know how to do it otherwise I would have recorded? Kaitlin Olson's Instagram Story from yesterday which totally mocked the Emmys. Can't say I blame her at all since them continually passing over great shows like IASIP all the time is one of the reasons why they're my least favorite awards show. While the other awards have problems as well, at least if you miss out for one project, the next year you might have a better chance, but at the Emmys, it hardly works that way because usually so many of the same shows get nominated every year.
Finally caught up with the 13th season on Hulu (don't have cable and I guess my friend's FX Now doesn't include It's Always Sunny in their catalog... so I guess I'll be waiting another year for Season 14), but I'm saddened to see all the hate for last season.
To be honest, the first episode with Mindy Kaling felt incredibly off. Maybe that was the point as we, like the Gang, missed Dennis? But I was not digging it. The Escape Room episode elevated it at least to an average Sunny episode (which is still better than most shows IMO). But from that third episode on, I was really digging it (even the "Clip Show" episode which is a HUGE subversion of those shitty clip show episodes every other sitcom has and surprised the hell out of me in a good way).
My favorite episode was definitely "The Gang Solves the Bathroom Situation" which I'm surprised no one talked about here at all. I always feel like Sunny is at its best when the Gang just sits around shooting the shit. Their chemistry is the stuff sitcom dreams are made of and that episode just crossed so many PC lines and offered so many "WTF" moments (like Charlie's
in the most hilarious ways without ever even leaving the bar. Pure Sunny.
I also agree with whoever said Kaitlin Olson was the MVP of season 13. She always gets strong moments here and there, but she was consistently on fire that last season and got a huge platform to strut her stuff in the female "Wade Boggs" episode. Comic gold.
And for anyone complaining about the finale, it concerns me. Yeah, it's Sunny doing something outside of the box and ending on a serious note, but it was utterly beautiful and earned. There are a plethora of things Sunny can get away with poking fun at because its characters are supposed to be the scum of the earth (and a lot of times they're making fun of themselves). Truth be told, you should never watch this show if you can't handle a joke. And of course they could have just had
Mac fumble through coming out of the closet to his Dad
the way this show always handles these situations. But it was refreshing to see another side, especially when the character actually is this way rather than just pretending/hiding it or making fun of someone else who is this way. Plus, Danny DeVito did perhaps some of the best acting of his career in that finale as well (certainly the best I've seen of him on this show) and it was a pleasant twist to see
Kind of a dumbass premise (and the true identity of Teddy was too obvious) but still a very funny episode... better than the majority of last season. DeVito was MVP... almost every line delivery was gold.
Just watched the premiere ... yeah the set-ups were super obvious and the meta humor was overdone even for them, but still I was laughing my ass off practically every scene. Already more confident and in more of a classic Sunny mode than last season...
Oh, come, come be my waitress and serve me tonight
