Freakishly accurate looking sex doll.

Great episode... everything with the sex doll was hilarious and Dennis' return was the most visceral TV moment since Dale Cooper snapped out of it.

Solid premiere, though I've never been much of a fan of snapping back to the status quo so quickly. Mindy Kaling was actually really great and I'd hate for her to be gone so soon, and I think they really could've done with a few episodes of her just to build her up as a great addition to the crew . . . as the Dennis doll's influence starts to permeate into each of the Gang, one after the other. This episode felt like a potential three/four-installment arc that got hurriedly cramped into one, and while Dennis's sudden appearance was excellent, it also felt a bit too meta for my liking, even for a show that likes to dance on the edge of that particular line. I actually expected Dennis to randomly croak and die in the last few seconds, to put a final brutal button on whether Howerton would stick around.

Mostly meh episode this week outside of the creepiness of Dennis' room and the ending.

I gotta be honest: this season isn't doing it for me.
Don't get me wrong, there are still moments of straight-up brilliance. But something is off. Reverting quickly back to the status quo at the end of the premiere didn't sit right with me, and the successive two episodes have proven that it desperately needed that post-Dennis shake-up. Howerton is my all-time favorite leading actor in a comedy series, but the show needed him to be gone to fuck with the dynamic enough to cause them to change shit up. I wanted more of Charlie/the Waitress together, so that after a decade or more of relentless pursuit, he realized that she was far more of a handful than he expected. I wanted more of Mac starting to improve upon his own self-image, even if it was in an unhealthy way. I wanted more of Dee's confidence to build up over the season. I wanted Frank to come off more as a voice of reason than simply the debauched reprobate. Dennis is the toxic center of the Gang, but removing him showed the capacity for the rest of the cast to play around with convention. Then when Dennis inevitably returns (in a far more glorious way than he did), those steadily constructed improvements begin to sour and decay.
In short, I think that bringing back Dennis was a mistake.

Those past two episodes were fucking gold. Especially “The Gang Gets New Wheels”. When Charlie and Mac met up with those kids at the end. Funniest shit.

My brother said that the episode tonight was fucking amazing. Meh. McElhenney tried something different and it just seemed bizarre after 13 seasons of the show. Overall this season was mostly crap outside of two great episodes (Time's Up and New Wheels) and the awesome Dennis return at the end of the opener. Howerton must be the most important creative voice behind the scenes because this season suffered without him. Screw you, AP Bio.

I thought that finale was beautiful. Glad to see it getting the raves that it’s been getting. Definitely different for Always Sunny, and I can see how some fans have issues with it, but after letting it sink in for awhile, I loved it.

So I finally caught up on this over the last few days. It was an erratic Season in terms of quality, and boy was that opener painfully I weak. It had me genuinely concerned.
I personally wasn't that bothered by the less frequent appearance of Dennis as a character. I go through patches where I tire of Dennis (although never of Howerton in his portrayal), so I was okay with this step back. I'm somewhat over this box of controlled and domineering psycho they'be put Dennis in, so when he's taken down a peg or two for a while, like in episode 5, I come around to his character again.
I thought Kaitlin Olson was the MVP of the Season, and for the first time Danny DeVito was the MVP of the men at least.
Ranking the episodes...
01 "The Gang Gets New Wheels" 02 "Time's Up for the Gang" 03 "The Gang Solves the Bathroom Problem" 04 "The Gang Beats Boggs: Ladies Reboot" 05 "Charlie's Home Alone" 06 "The Gang Wins the Big Game" 07 "Mac Finds His Pride" 08 "The Gang Does a Clip Show" 09 "The Gang Escapes" 10 "The Gang Makes Paddy's Great Again"
So anyways, Season 13 was a definite step-down in quality after the near masterpiece that was Season 12, but I still got more than enough kicks out of it after those weak two opening episodes.

I started watching this almost a month ago after tons of people had been telling me for nearly a year that I should watch it, saying it’s something I’d really really really like.
I’m on S5E2 and yes, I fucking love it. Dennis is the best.

I’m like halfway through the first season of AP Bio and it’s actually pretty funny, but yea that’s almost entirely because of Howerton.
