Possibly the single most baffling, illogical, scarily funny statistic I've ever posted - and baffling, illogical, scary funny statistics are sort of my thing in general. This is a poll released yesterday: I literally had to read this 3 times to make sure I was reading it correctly.... The big picture: The poll found that American public opinion of Trump, the Jan. 6 riot and the 2024 election haven't shifted after the recent hearings, which have aimed to show that there is evidence Trump committed crimes during the Capitol riot.
Details: The poll found that 38% of those surveyed think Trump is directly responsible for the events of Jan. 6, which is down from 42% who felt the same in late June www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/reports/monmouthpoll_us_080922/

6, which is down from 42% who felt the same in late June www.monmouth.edu/polling-institute/reports/monmouthpoll_us_080922/well if I could add my spin while some of these results are pretty weird, what I also noticed was that Trump's total disapproval outweighs his approval by a whopping 10 points (50% to 40%) and that 56% said they probably or definitely wouldn't vote for him compared to the 40% who said they probably or definitely would (and the definitely-would-nots are at an incredibly high 48%). Trump remains incredibly toxic. also that figure about 38% saying Trump is directly responsible... that is lower than late June buuuut the next response which is only a little softer that Trump "encouraged those involved" was 26%. Add those two figures together and you have 64% of respondents who say Trump was responsible at least to some extent compared to the 30% of ppl who said he wasn't responsible at all. And glancing over these results, that disparity tracks because in most of these questions the ratio of non-MAGA to MAGA seems to run about 65-35.
