I broke my laptop and I don't really like the mobile version of this site so I've barely posted for while. Fun times!
Should be getting a pay rise soon so hopefully a new laptop isn't far away!

I've been bashing my head against an R-shaped wall for this stupid project for the last like four hours and I'm 3 weeks behind on grading and I keep getting 98.5's on my Chinese exams and it's killing me and I ran out of cheese just now, but I skunked my dad at ping pong tonight and finished my Pokemon Sun nuzlocke run yesterday with minimal casualties and I did laundry today so I don't have to wear a work shirt to my meeting tomorrow so all in all I'd say I'm a pretty monumental success lately. ! and also ? I was really into Sun when it first came out, got a good ways in but got distracted by other things ( Stardew Valley, now it looks like Witcher 3 for me) -- what's a nuzlocke run? What was your starter? Do you ever do those photo op challengers with wild pokemon? I need answers

Well, I'm a bit tired. I got back home from a trip to Cuba at like 1:30 AM on Wednesday morning and had work that day. Now I have to fly out tomorrow for a wedding! Just a whirlwind.
I also watched this PBS documentary about how genetics form in the womb, and I thought it was so neat. Like, there's a village in the Dominican Republic where it's some children are born with a sort of internal male genitalia and so they're mistaken for girls until they hit puberty and grow a penis. This is super rare in all other areas of the world, but it's so common in this village they just accept it and move on. I think it is so cool.
Also, I got into 15 minute argument with someone on the phone at work today because they paid a $5700 fee that was due to my law firm to the wrong law firm, and I was so not having it. I'm not a confrontational person at all, but after being on hold a bunch today, it felt really good to actually tell somebody they need to fix themselves.

I need answers Nuzlocke run has a few rules, basically you can only catch the first pokemon you see in an area (unless it's a repeat cause that's boring), you can't use items in battle, and if a pokemon faints you have to release it. And play in set mode instead of switch. It's supposed to be like an artificial "hard mode" basically. I "rolled" a "3-sided die" online to pick starter and ended up with the water one. And I never did the photo op things.

theycallmemrfish I mean I don't know if that's an official rule or anything, but also it's a dumb thing someone made up and no one's forcing you to do anything so why not. But yeah, it's pretty dumb if you just end up with a bunch of birds and worms and junk. It's supposed to be harder, not stupid and boring.

ChairfaceC Just an FYI, the single pokemon challenge is super easy (at least in FireRed). I thought it would be hard, but by the end my blastoise was so extremely overpowered that he rendered everything else moot (you are allowed an HM slave or two in that run).

theycallmemrfish The single pokemon challenge is pretty much how I played pokemon when I first played . Pretty sure I beat Red for the first time with a stupidly overpowered Charizard and like two Pidgeys. And I think he knew Fly, Strength, Cut, and maybe Fire Blast. One time I pretty much only used that Mr. Mime you can trade for, and he got overlevelled to a fault. I think he was like 70-something at Serena, and it took me forever to beat her cause he kept like falling asleep and getting confused and stuff. I was pretty bad at most stuff when I was 6.

Well, I'm a bit tired. I got back home from a trip to Cuba. How did you like Cuba? Let me tell you, it's a fascinating country. I felt pretty safe in most areas, our Air bnb host was super cool, and there are some very beautiful landmarks. They need to clean up the city and work on the infrastructure though. I was in Havana the whole time, and it was jarring to see a really beautifully kept historical building or castle or museum next to piles of trash or a block of rubble from a torn down lot. I don't think I would ever want to return anytime soon, but I'm glad I went when I did because I'm really not sure how much longer most Americans will be able to enter on the visas they have available now. I'd recommend it to anyone though, it's an enlightening experience. I saw some severed goat legs in the street (2, to be exact) as well as Jamie Lee Curtis at the Havana airport, so it was definitely a weird trip.

kellysassafras Did you eat lots of good food? There was only one actual Cuban restaurant that made actual Cuban food when I lived in GTMO, but it was so good and I miss it. It's like the best parts of Spanish and Caribbean food mixed together.

I'm still picking my way through Pokemon Moon. Honestly, this is the first Pokemon game that hasn't hooked me. Lovely graphics and design, but I just can't groove onto it.

Yeah, it's the only one I didn't beat the first time I played it. I appreciate changing up the formula in theory, but without gyms I didn't feel the same sense of progression and accomplishment when I moved forward. All the quality of life changes they made are so great, though.

Also, Team Skull (from what I've seen thus far) is easily the most ridiculously lame team of enemies I've seen in the franchise.

Well there we disagree, cause Team Skull is the most perfect part of this or any other pokemon game. I love them and their stupid walk and their incompetence and their amazing theme music and how no one takes them even a little seriously.

But they just feel so childish to me, especially in comparison to other Pokemon baddies.

Cause that's definitely the point, I think. I have no idea, which I think is also a bit of a frustrating aspect of the game in comparison to the others. I don't like to read plot synopses or spoil myself, and going in blind has thrown me off because I don't have anything to really use as a measuring-stick of progress (in the other games, you could use gyms as your bellwether). I've beaten two totems and have mucked about in other aspects, but I don't know how far I am in the game as it is. It feels much more open-world than previous games, which is nice . . . but also a tad infuriating.

It's like the best parts of Spanish and Caribbean food mixed together. I ate out a lot, but only a few things stood out to me. My lunch on the first was just a classic Cuban sandwich and it was just perfect and delicious. We also went to one corner restaurant two days in a row, and I think the second meal, while very good, may have given me food poisoning tbh bc I totally had symptoms the next day. But! I had some shredded beef in marinade, which idk if it's uniquely Cuban bc that's also a common Mexican dish I know, but it was sooooo delicious and I loved it. I have a photo of it but I'm sure it wouldn't look appetizing to a lot of people lol

I start my new job tomorrow. It's data work, not my first choice of field, but it's in a great location in Manhattan and I'll have some money to buy shit again. I'm also thinking about taking some continuing education courses, as opposed to a few years in grad school. Hmm. That's cool. What are education courses btw? Are they similar to post undergrad career related courses? I think you should go to Columbia Law. Sort of. They're certifications of sorts that teach you things you don't need a Master's for. I'm flattered you think I should go to Columbia law, but I'm more focused on data administration, or something technical. I want money and I want it soon.
