I think what might play in Denzel's favor is that he seems hellbent on getting that 3rd Oscar. He wants to join that elite club of 3-time winners, so he'll keep gunning for it and in effect increase his nomination count. I think when he wins his 3rd he might have the fat cat syndrome and slow down, perhaps even retire..even though that would suck for us Denzel fans. He has plenty of money to retire today if he wanted, his son his making waves, I could see Denzel doing his Thanos at the end of Avengers: Infinity War type deal where he sits down and rests, but I think he wants that 3rd..and to do King Lear on Broadway..I think that's what is motivating him right now along with his August Wilson projects. We'll see. I dunno...if Denzel was hellbent on a 3rd Oscar, I think he'd bait like Hanks, DiCaprio etc (which is to say, almost non-stop). He wouldn't be still throwing in Equalizer 2 or The Magnificent Seven.Would he like a 3rd Oscar? Obviously. Who wouldn't. But it doesn't strike me as an overarching obsession for him. His Oscar success almost goes against the grain, because he doesn't actively seem to chase it as much as many of his contemporaries. I think he wants another one but not as an actor. I think he wants one as a producer or director.

lol John Lee Hancock is not talented. He’s been successful in making generic, safe, critically tolerated inspirational dramas that the Academy fell for once and that’s it. What is this versatility that you speak of? I don’t see it. Any time he’s doing anything remotely outside of that wheelhouse, he’s failed. As for Washington, I was adamant that the Academy wouldn’t touch Israel Q and they did. So I’m not going to take any firm stances on how many noms he’ll end up with. We don’t even know how long he’ll continue to work, how long he’ll live, ect. This whole thing seems very silly to me. Don't misrepresent what I wrote. I don't give a fnck about Hancock, I just meant he has a deeper history of writing/directing than Esmail atm. I didn't say he was talented at all.. If the Oscar nominations issue seems silly to you ok, but what seems silly to me is when people predict he will will get 4-5 more nods when that has never happened in Academy history at his age. It was the subject of a big poll on here......."Who will catch Nicholson" and the answer is imo ......."only DiCaprio has that shot". I don't think you're cut out for predicting stuff tbh - I mean how did the Hanks "Greyhound" thing work out for you - is there anything that we predict on here that wouldn't seem "silly" to you anyway? That's the whole point of predicting .........we don't "know" You said he’s more versatile and what I see here is desperate attempts to try and downplay Sam Esmail’s talent, his acclaim, ect for obvious reasons. Let’s call a spade a spade, you don’t like Washington and/or his fans, and you spend most of your time trying to start fights or stir up shit when it comes to them. That’s really all I see in the novels you write. This is a nonsense argument that you keep trying to rehash and it’s beyond tired at this point. You probably won’t even be alive to see the outcome anyway. As for Greyhound, lol bitch please. I was the very first one to confirm that Hanks was getting nominated for ABDiTN when everyone else insisted that the Academy was bored of him and wouldn’t embrace him again until he played against type or a villain. I love Hanks but Greyhound is horrible and that’s that on that!

You tried, I guess, and were about as successful as the attempt to convince anyone of the nonsense in your first post here. And I saw that film at least six months before it went to Toronto. Nice try though. Anything I posted from TIFF was well after it test screened here.

He definitely wanted it that year. I think he’ll also move away from action movies and move more towards awards friendly films as he gets older. I think he’s pretty close to aging out of action movies now.

He did spend a lot of his career doing solid thriller / actiony type roles, and there was a good decade between Training Day, and Flight, when he didn't receive a single Oscar nomination. It's cool that he's picking up the pace, though.

Well, I tuned outta Mr Robot and Homecoming - which is rare for me. I think Esmail is more initially interesting in his style but it wears out, and quickly, and he steals a lot too. This is a kinda pressure-cooked premise I dig, but I actually don't like Julia Roberts so that's a minus for me. Who are they casting as the spouses?? I thought of Sean Penn and apparently he's already signed up to play Roberts husband in a new series from Esmail. Hmm

I agree..plus he accomplished being a box office draw and making alot of money during that time period with his action/thriller films and expanding his audience. So its looking like he's going for more dramatic work now, plus it looks like he's going to be getting PAID for this project from what I've read so far.

I was impressed by much of Mr. Robot and Homecoming S1 (haven't seen S2). But I still don't know if he's developed a directorial identity, as the style and technique of so much of Mr. Robot was a loving Fincher homage.

Denzel was circling the role Ali is set to play last year but I guess he never committed or had scheduling conflicts. Anywho I'm happy for Ali who's doing extremely well in his career right now. Guess we'll have to wait longer for the Denzel-Julia reunion.

This is why that nonsense that people used to say about Denzel "catching" Nicholson was the dumbest stuff ever on this board - and that's saying something - he doesn't work enough, his filmography isn't deep enough to get to 12 nods now (he turns 68 in 3 months) and dudes over 65 don't get 4 nods (that has never happened and certainly not for a guy with 8 under his belt already)........'Zel said he wanted to end his career on stage and do more stage work.......believe him when he tells you stuff people He's also much more likely to get his 9th nod and win this year than he ever was to get 12 and if he does win this year he ain't gonna pick up the pace either......only DiCaprio atm is really a threat for Jack's 12. Anyway - I never cared for this project much - it sounds too straining to make a social point - it sounds a little cringey and too on-point / heavy handed and Sam Esmail and feature film work is ........not great...........book is supposed to be major though

I don't know how you got all that from Denzel dropping out of a project, but do your thang homie..do yo thang.
If Denzel gets nominated this year for his 9th with MacBeth, he'll just need 3 more nominations to "catch" Nicholson. I can EASILY see him get 3 Supporting Actor nominations (if we take Lead Actor out of it) in his 70s in a few prestige projects to get to 12. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him..lol.

There should be a running thread on this, ha ha. Deadline reports---- Denzel saves a man today. ----> This is why Denzel can't get 12 nods, he's too busy saving randoms on the street. Deadline reports---- Denzel ate an apple. ----> What is Denzel's problem? He will never score 12 nods if spends all his time eating when he should be filming movies. Deadline reports---- Denzel takes a walk down Hollywood BLVD. ----> Huh? There goes nomination number 10. Stop lollygagging, Denzel.
