I have a feeling IMDb is going to back down. The backlash is just going to be too heavy, and they're going to lose so many members. Such a stupid decision on their behalf.

Just read the whole statement they released, apparently there are far too few members who post on the forums, they claim most have moved on to FB and twitter IMDB pages to post comments. So yeah, don't think they'll be changing their minds any time soon RIP IMDB boards

I'm seeing a lot of people posting that they will be done with the site completely. I hope they realize that because people could easily go to Wikipedia for general movie information and summaries.

Me too. I will miss the message boards of the different films, series, actors, actresses, movie board. I learned a lot there and it was very interesting to read the different comments. It is very sad.

I'll miss it to a degree, but at the same time it was becoming such a cesspool for bullshit, arguments and bullshit arguments, that maybe a new day was needed.
I'd hope this place could be that new day. Fingers crossed anyway.

Even if you consider 10 person angry that they would stop using IMDB for every person that signed a petition, it is a extremely small number of people versus 250 million users, and that is people that usually use adblocker to a very large proportion and that you cannot sell ads too. (even if you multiply by 20 you do not reach 1 million, 1 million is not even half a percent of IMDB users)
If it hurt the site it would be more long term, with them loosing content creator (trivia bits, list and so on) that will be gone, but there new platform and no comments could mean new exclusive content (from the studio, stars, etc...) for them too, more valuable one.

I know some of you still want to fight the fight, but save your time. There is nothing we can do now to stop them from removing the boards on the 20th of February. Nothing. They might bring them back at some point, but the decision has been made for now and you might as well accept it. Corporates don't care about petitions.

At least we have somewhere else to go for now. I'm hoping they bring them back at some point after realizing it was a mistake.
