96m would be bit disappointing and below tracking, but Furious 7 was such a peak and it was impossible to even match that (125m would have been the absolute ceiling)

I mean they had a lot more going for it that time, in particular everything surrounding Walker.

Well it did match or made more in some market, I imagine that for a lot of market the death of an american actor is not really relevant thought.

It'll be disappointing if this opens below $100 million. Lowering my predictions to $105-110 million now.

Oh come on, there's no way his death had a huge impact on the film's massive success. It wasn't just the death of "some American actor" it was the death of one of the main faces of the whole franchise.

But a lot of the money was made in market for who it was a pretty recent big deals, not some long relationship, most of the movie didn't get a china release and it is where the movie was the most popular and 8 is opening even bigger there, I doubt Fast 7 was popular in China because of Walker.

Look like Fast 8 has a shoot at the biggest global opening weekend of all time, it did beat Fast 7 opening in around 16 markets and some opening record in many.

Universal has been interested in a Dwayne Johnson spin-off for quite some time, so you have to imagine they'll be eager to fast-track that

Oh, it's only a matter of time until they're in space, or the jungle, or inside a volcano, or back in China racing along the Great Wall

100m is bit disappointing since it was tracking for 110m and its only 3m more than Fast 6, but it was inevitable it wouldn't be much higher
Final domestic gross should be somewhere around 250m-280m
The lowest grossing domestic films to make 1b are Pirates: Stranger Tides (241m DOM, 1b WW) and Transformers: Age of Extinction (245m DOM, 1,1b WW)
