Normally not too much into remakes, particularly for movies that came out so recently, but I haven't watched the original so I'll reserve my judgement until I do. Also, DiCaprio options a lot of projects, most of which he doesn't end up doing himself, so I can easily see this either not being made or starring someone else. Perhaps even Jake Gyllenhaal, who was pursuing it? Interesting choice of words here: " The difference maker here to Vinterberg was the chance to see DiCaprio in a new role, the vulnerable middle-aged man in existential crisis played by Mads Mikkelsen." They make it sound like Vinterberg really wants to see DiCaprio play this role Perhaps he sees this as an opportunity to be able to work with DiCaprio?

This is what I was thinking, too - I can't imagine DiCaprio would want to star in this, honestly - especially with the original being so fresh in mind.

Are we sure this is an Another Round remake or a documentary about Leo's nights clubbing?
I just don't really see the point of remaking this. Wouldn't surprise me if Leo ends up dropping out, as others have alluded to he seems to be signing on to tons of things right now and will just pick what he wants.

I doubt this happens with him acting in it. Probably another Out of the Furnace-esque producing job.

I joked with friends that Sandler was gonna get the rights and do a Happy Madison comedy of it. But actually, I'd only wanna see a remake that uses the idea as completely comedic.... as a physical comedy performance vehicle, you could have fun casting it and creating new types of characters.... Bobby Cannavale, Sam Rockwell, John C Reilly, and as the high school French teacher Camille Cottin, I rest my case. Reclaiming youth one sip at a time?

There's not even a script being written. I think it will be like that Toni Erdmann remake that was supposed to star Jack Nicholson, lots of noise and then it won't get made.
Leo, do that Roosevelt film or The Devil in The White City, don't waste yourself into a crappy remake.

Well, if the film will indeed be a star vehicle for DiCaprio, as the report says it is intended to be, I wonder who they'll get to direct it. The thing about DiCaprio is that he works with the top directors so I wonder who he's gonna approach. Todd Phillips weirdly came to mind as a choice that they could make - he's a prestige director now (I guess) and he's already made some silly movies about being drunk so just imagining him as a potential contender for the job makes sense to me.

Now that I've given this more thought, I can actually see DiCaprio doing this, but not anytime soon. I see this as something he might want to do in his mid-50s or something. Projects have percolated through Hollywood production houses for much longer than 10 years. As for who will direct it, having not watched the original yet, would Greta Gerwig be a silly proposition?

I can't imagine Gerwig directing a movie about four middle-age-and-up dudes drinking their way through their days. An American take on this is kind of bound to be a bit more bro-ey (at least that's what my narrow imagination tells me) which is why Phillips came up in my mind, I guess. Plus Leo wouldn't look down on working with him since he's a Best Director nominee now

If we're talking potential directors, I feel like Alexander Payne would be a good fit for this kind of material.

Never gonna happen. Leo wouldn't come close to doing this movie if it's not Scorsese/Spielberg/Fincher/Bennett Miller/Ang Lee/Sam Mendes/Coen/Chazelle/Mann, etc.

I dunno why not Phillips though? Again, he's a prestige guy now so I don't think Leo would scoff about the prospect of working with him. Just like with Adam McKay. I think Leo would quicker work with Phillips who's hot after his billion dollar Oscar movie rather than Mann who wasn't had a success for a while now, or Ang Lee unless the project was a 100% guaranteed good movie (and not something as risky as his recent ultra-FPS stuff).

😂😂😂😂 Quality replies. Good God thoughts if Nolan goes much more small scale and directs this, with a strong psychological thriller element to it?

Good God thoughts if Nolan goes much more small scale and directs this, with a strong psychological thriller element to it? I think it's much more likely Nolan resurrects his Howard Hughes biopic and signs DiCaprio up for that one than for DiCaprio to consider Nolan for something like this or for Nolan to seriously consider doing this. But hypothetically, I don't think Nolan is right for this. Nolan can do a lot of things, some perhaps better than anyone working right now, but I don't think he has the sensibility or the right humor for this kind of movie. But, hey, what do I know, I just suggested Greta Gerwig for this project
