Yeah Casey's definitely my favorite male performance of the year. Steinfeld and Oulaya Amamra in Divines are battling it out for the overall female performance for me. And then Bryce Dallas Howard in Black Mirror is my favorite of the year in any medium, but I'm strictly talking film. bobbystarks I've never seen Black Mirror, but been thinking of checking it out. I think you'd dig it. You can start off with pretty much any episode. I'd recommend the "White Christmas" special to get the best overall feel of the show. If you start off from the beginning, don't get turned off by the pilot episode if you don't like it. It's very divisive among fans and in my opinion doesn't represent the show that well as a whole. I personally think it's okay but it's vastly different from the rest of the episodes.

Gold - 6/10
Was pretty disappointed with most of it but then it actually got really good towards the end. I feel like a better director could have done something special with that story.

Rings. It's really not that bad. They took one of the more interesting aspects from the second movie (the sub-culture surrounding teens circulating the video) and goes forward with it. Halfway, it pretty much turns into a retread of the previous movies (as well as other movies), but I was into it throughout. Also a plus that cheap scares are surprisingly limited. Galecki's pre-title opening scene is some pretty great stuff too.

Christ_Ian_Bale Do you mean that the scene is great or Galecki's acting is. Or both?

Christ_Ian_Bale Do you mean that the scene is great or Galecki's acting is. Or both? The scene itself. His job in the moment, really, is to just stand there. I did like him overall though, mainly as it felt like quite a departure from his recent work.

The Founder
I really ancitipated this but Lubezki & Alex turned out to be kinda sorta right with their early reviews. Not bad, but thoroughly mediocre, quite slow and not very engaging. With possibly the most annoying score of the year (Carter Burwell can really overdo it sometimes). Keaton was excellent, but the rest of the cast left me unimpressed. The McDonalds brothers especially were kind of cloying. It may sound bad, but I kinda rooted for Kroc all the way through Also, dafuq is up with the screenwriter comparing this to "There Will Be Blood"? Just because they both have to do with milkshakes? But I mostly blame John Lee Hancock (what a name). I think this script could've been directed in a much more interesting way.

The Accidental Tourist: Well-acted, but it has no higher purpose and is at least a half-hour too long. 5/10

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, the movie fails alright. However, I'm not sure whether it's because I didn't watch in 120fps or something else, but I was expecting a lot more even in terms of its failure, I mean, I didn't think the film tried hard enough, it could have gone a little further in style (not to mention substance but that's one of the main reasons it fails); instead, everything felt kinda half-baked in its disastrousness.

I saw the NT Live screening of Amadeus on Thursday - it is an incredible adaptation on stage at the National Theatre at the moment. If they screen it near you, I urge you to go! I also saw Spilt on the same day.

Last movie I saw was Split. 7.5/10 It turned out to be far better than I was expecting. All the shit I talked about M. Night Shyamalan... I don't take back, but I will give him credit that he finally came through with a decent one here. James McAvoy has a role that is a hammy actor's dream, and he truly delivered. He probably won't get enough recognition for it, but I will be repping with the Hedwig dance in his honor.

I watched Nashville (1975) last night!!! This movie has an awesome ensemble cast!!! Lily Tomlin, Ronee Blakely, Geraldine Chaplin, Barbara Harris, Gwen Welles, Shelley Duvall, Henry Gibson, and Ned Beatty made it into either my top 10 supporting actor or actress for that year!!! Just missed my top 10 include for either category include Barbara Baxley, Karen Black, Keith Carradine, Robert DoQui, Allen Garfield, and Scott Glenn!!! Overall, I gave it 11 nominations (in my top 10s that I give in the Big 8 categories), and I rated it 9/10!

Jackie - A very interestingly told real-life story. Portman gives a very good performance, and the cinematography and direction is great. 7.5 / 10

Hands of Stone- De Niro and Ramirez are great, but the structure of this whole thing is off (along with some weird editing) and I'm not really sure they did justice to Duran himself. But for the most part I enjoyed it. 6.5/10
