Looked to me like Christian Bale in heavy makeup. Anyone that thinks he's embodying Cheney in that trailer is watching something different than what i saw.Ah yes the good ol, 'I'm absolutely right so everyone else must be watching something different' approach. Classy. Just ignore the fact that someone who has spent a lot of time with Cheney said he looks and sounds exactly like him.

Wasn't much of a fan of The Big Short, but part of my problem there was how McKay balanced the fractured narrative and handled the complicated intricacies of its subject and I expect this to be more streamlined and straightforward. Cast looks terrific so far, but goddamn am I worried about the toll Bale is putting on his body with these transformations. It's unreal.

It felt like an impersonation to me because I only heard Bale's voice, and I'm not the only one that felt that way. He might be doing the best job he possibly can, but that just means he was miscast. I'd like to be wrong, but I didn't hear Cheney in the trailer, I just heard Bale speaking on a lower register (listen to a Cheney interview, Bale's voice sounds nothing like Cheney's). If the performance were in better directorial hands or if they had cast a different actor, I might have more hope for this project, but it isn't and they didn't so I don't.

And you call ME an "arrogant twat"?? This reply is pretty much the dictionary definition for "arrogant twat", and that defines your loathsome personality since the MA days. Plus, your opinions are ALWAYS in the minority, but you don't seem to get it. Insufferable!

Plus, you're opinions are ALWAYS in the minority, but you don't seem to get it. Insufferable! Literally untrue. Where the fuck do you get these ideas? Examples or stop talking out of your ass. Tired of your confrontational bullshit. I post a reaction to a trailer and you launch into fucking personal tirades. You might consider being less triggered in the future by subjective opinions that differ from your own. It's pretty pathetic actually. You don't seem to get it.

Well personally I’m super excited for this. Of course, I also really enjoyed The Big Short so that probably factors in. Whatever your politics, we can surely all agree that Cheney is...fascinating. Rockwell looks great too!

The Big Short was garbage and this somehow looks worse, and Bale isn't convincing AT ALL in that trailer. Wasn't too fond of THE BIG SHORT either but I'm still willing to give that new film a chance

Wait. Is that the same studio as if beale street? Yeah also American Hustle, what are you trying to imply? that they have two major players and sometimes a smaller studio will focus attention on one. I can see Vice being the main push.

Looks like we underestimated Adams and Bale is a serious threat to Cooper and could possibly take home the Oscar.

As someone who has had Adams winning for quite a while now, while a lot of you weren't even predicting her for a nom, this pleases me greatly

I still don't quite buy Bale and Adams as winners, but man, how fucking hilarious would it be if Cooper loses after being the "safe bet" all year round?

We’ll see. I really didn’t care for The Big Short, so I’m still walking in with low expectations.

So Cooper is supposed to win just coz he's been the only outstanding lead performance for a long time? When has that been reason enough by itself, historically?

So Cooper is supposed to win just coz he's been the only outstanding lead performance for a long time? When has that been reason enough by itself, historically? It's more that he's up for four potential nominations in a given year, and that bodes well as it's likely that any single person up for that many awards in a single night will take home at least one. It helps that his film is doing very well, he's unlikely to win Director/Screenplay, Best Actor is a wasteland this year, he has three prior acting nods from them, he's a consummate schmoozer, and his biggest competition is a former winner playing a very controversial role. With that said, Bale might wind up running him a tighter race than even I expected. Just depends on if there's A Star Is Born burnout as well as if Bale racks up critical momentum (and I mean, undeniable DDL-style momentum; Cooper can skate by on industry love and ultimately win out, but if the narrative shifts to Bale taking everything, things might change). I don't expect that to happen, but who knows?

I agree with stephen, Cooper is bound to win at least one prize and best actor seems most likely. If he wins it will boost my fantasy league score but i wouldn't mind him loosing coz he is not even the best performer in his film. Lady Gaga outshone him tbh. On the other side Bale looks like a beast (judging by the reactions) who is ready to win but the only thing that's against him is that he is playing a controversial figure and along with that he is already a winner while Cooper is due for an Oscar.
