Jumping in for recommendations..... I had a really fun double feature last year, two that bend genre and style like an undertow toward their bewitching, disturbing lead perfs....... Kaun (1999) with Urmila Matondkar .......and Maya Memsaab (1993) with Deepa Sahi. Are these famous actresses? I haven't seen anything else from them. Specifically, I'd like to see more from the Kaun director, Ram Gopal Varma, anybody have any recs? Thx! Also very fond of Sharmila Tagore in her Satyajit Ray movies (Devi, The Hero, Days and Nights in the Forest). Anything outside of Satyajit worth seeing for her? And a shoutout to Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam (1962) that I've been a little obsessed with over the last few years, very spellbinding movie and the entire cast is great - Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari, etc. Omg Urmila is so cool. The style icon of the 90s. She has the tendency to go so over the top but it's always so fun to watch her especially in those batshit crazy characters that she did often back then. I'd recommend Rangeela which is basically La La Land but funner, and Ek Hasina Thi. Ram Gopal Verma and Urmila were the greatest actor-director duo then and every movie they did was so much fun. Other RGV movies would be Satya, Bhoot, Company. I'm so glad you loved Sahib Bibi. It's among my favorite hindi films and Meena Kumari is heartbreaking. That she had a similar fate in real life is so tragic.
