Please let this beat Oppenheimer's ass. I can see it take pic but not director. It absolutely doesn't strike me as a movie that wins BP and loses BD. Everyone describes it as a visionary directorial achievement through and through so if it wins BP, Lanthimos takes it too.

At this rate, I really do think it could easily take Picture, Actress, Adapted Screenplay and one or two techs like Production Design and Costumes. If it makes a decent splash at the box office, I'd put it in the pole position. You’re forgetting Director, the most deserved. I do think Nolan has the edge as I am predicting a split this year.

Please let this beat Oppenheimer's ass. Not me trying to figure out a way to Barbenheimer Poor Things and Zone of Interest. Poor Interest

As much as it would pain me, it would be kind of cruelly funny to see Oppenheimer lose to a movie that followed the awards blueprint of Shape of Water after Nolan's last shot at a BD Oscar was ruined by... the director of Shape of Water.

I do think we might need to cool the jets just slightly, though I do think the film is going to be a top five contender. Afterall for the 3 films that won the Golden Lion and Best Picture, there's all the rest of the Golden Lion winners that did not. In fact most weren't even nominated.
And let's not forget, The Favourite was one Glenn Close away from going home empty handed, Lanthimos didn't even hit DGA. He could fall into the PTA situation, where there's enough love in the academy to get him nominated but maybe he's too idiosyncratic to get to that elusive win.

I'll have to see it before buying into anything. The Favourite had very hyperbolic reviews IMO, so I'm not inclined to believe this film is as strong people are indicating.

0:20. So glad to see Lanthimos continuing his streak of strange anachronistic dances from The Favourite. I need this to be a running theme going forward.

I laughed out loud at least four separate times while watching that 1-minute trailer. This looks hysterically funny.

The production design looks absolutely stunning I mean, I haven't seen the film yet but I'm already hoping that it can break Barbie's upcoming default PD sweep.

Just as an fyi - from World of Reel but citng a podcast so you don't have to take with salt this time:
It does look as though more Stone/Lanthimos will be coming our way in the near future. In an interview with the Little Gold Men podcast (via The Playlist), Lanthimos teased that he’s been talking to Stone about working together again on his next project.
“I mean, yeah. After we finish one, we discuss the next one,” Lanthimos said. “So we’ve shot this feature film in New Orleans [‘Kind Of Kindness’] which we are now editing and ‘Poor Things’ is out now and yeah, we’re discussing about doing something together again [after that].”
If this project does indeed come to fruition then it would be the fifth straight film Lanthimos has made with Stone, and that’s counting their recent NYFF-premiered short film, “Bleat.”

stephen , mhynson27 - fyi, but it could be anything........ According to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman, Lanthimos has been targeted by Cj Entertainment to direct a remake of the South Korean film, Save The Green Planet. Stone is apparently in negotiations to star in the project. - IMDB

I remember when Ari Aster was tapped to do this a couple years ago. I could certainly see what Yorgos would do with it, but honestly, I'm more interested in him doing Pop. 1280 and The Hawkline Monster.

I'm not as big a fan of Plemons as you are - I ike him a lot but not THAT much as of yet anyway - but Plemons in the Noiret role (since he's in Lanthimos' next one) and Stone in the Huppet role in Pop 1280 would be quite perfect casting

I had posited Colman before, but I think Emma Stone would crush it as well.
