I'd narrowly give Moore the edge over Foster, but I love them both. Pfeiffer, eh.

I give the edge to Pfeiffer. I think she is a lot more consistent and has higher highs, though she is less prolific.

Moore winning this is hilarious.
Jodie Foster is clearly the better of the three. Y'all just wrong.

Pfeiffer hasn't sunk to the same lows as the other two, but her peaks are also less impressive. When Moore is on she is one of the best in her age group as far as American-born actresses go. Foster's signature performances are tremendous but she's also been embarrassingly bad on several occasions.

To each his own I guess. I completely disagree on the versatility argument; Foster's filmography is as varied as both Pfeiffer's and Moore's and she has a resume far more extensive and critically praised. I will concede I think Pfeiffer is probably slightly more consistent overall but she, IMO, has never hit the heights of Foster, and Moore's filmography is a mess for the most part, though I'll admit she has been great on more than one occasion. If anyone should be coming last though, it's Moore, not Foster...but I guess the recency effect is very much a part of Moore winning this poll...

Pfeiffer wins for me based on consistency. Both Moore and Foster have hit greater heights, but they have more than their share of lows (Nell and Magnolia are some of the all-time worst performances ever accredited to "acclaimed" actresses), which Pfeiffer doesn't really have.

Foster is a very gifted actress for sure but her range is pretty limited compared to Moore and Pfeiffer . She's a little bit too "same-y" for my taste.I mean I can definitely see Moore nad Pfeiffer playing some of Jodie's roles but not the other way aroud (I'm sorry but I can't see Foster as Susie Diamond , Catwoman , Mme De Tourvel , Amber Waves , Laura Brown or Havanna Segrand). People are putting Foster on a pedestal because she's managed to make a successful transition from child actress to "grown up" actress (winning 2 oscars before 30). Just MY opinion of course.

Well I think Moore showed she can't do Clarice Starling lol. I would say this much - I don't think Moore did that great a job with Havana Segrand anyway, but I do agree that that may not be the sort of role which Foster would excel in. I think Moore is great as Laura Brown, but I think plenty of actresses would have managed to do just as well with the role (hell, I generally find Moore to be a better actress at her peak than Streep is, but I think both Streep and Kidman were better, the former in what I think was definitely a less baitier or substantial part than Moore's). And personally, I think Foster would've done a fine job as Amber Waves myself. I mean, look at her in The Accused or Taxi Driver, both roles where she played fairly broadly against type. Hell, she has done neo-femme fatale ( Inside Man), vulnerable orphan turned CIA trainee, an isolated hermit who speaks her own language, rape victim, passionate scientist, supportive wife...I mean I think trying to suggest her range is limited does not do her justice. She doesn't just do one type of film, and she's been nominated for Oscars and other awards in a range of different roles. Now comparing her to Pfeiffer is a bit harder, because I do think Pfeiffer has probably a slightly greater range and has managed to do a slightly greater variety of roles than Foster in a more consistently good way, but again, I stress I don't think Pfeiffer has hit anywhere near the highs of Foster. I'd put both higher than Moore though.
