Not enough drama this time but there's some action and Tommy gets even more ambitious. Cinematography and production design stepped up a lot.

Now that I finished The Punisher, I'm gonna be checking out S4. It's been so long!

I thought it was one of the most heavy on it, and I liked it more than most of them on account of the more relatively streamlined nature of it. But Brody... Wow. I got used to him by the end, but in those early episodes it was embarrassing. I was thinking to myself "Dude, how many times you watched The Godfather before you started filming?" he made Tom Hardy's performance on this show look subtle and natural as a snowflake.

New season was definitely a notch below the third, but was a great one for sure. Production values were top-notch as per usual, and it's just always great to spend time with these characters and within such a unique setting and atmosphere. Alfie's death really got to me; this show will sorely miss Hardy. I agree with the sentiments that Brody just pulled a knockoff Brando routine, but his aspect of the story was indeed interesting so it was easy to overlook. The season's conflict as a whole sort of felt spread thin, at the same time flying by breezily while feeling like more could have been done in six episodes, in terms of plot progression. Also was not at all expecting the ending, which I think opens up some fantastic avenues for the future.

Brody is laughably bad in some scenes going forward. I will say this though. No one can deliver "cunt" quite like Tom Hardy lol. God I love him

I'm finished with episode 5. I think this is probably my favorite season thusfar, even with Brody doing Brando (poorly). Though, not exactly keen on Polly and Tommy being alone on their plan to be "at odds"... I would have loved a full on family riff.

Can't say I'm thrilled with the way the season ended, but I still think it was a very, very good six episodes.

I mean, all I really need from this show is Cillian Murphy in his Tommy Shelby attire looking so beautifully forlorn 24/7 and I'm game no matter what the plot is. It's the Tommy Shelby show for me lol. But objectively, I think this season was a definitive step down from season 3. I like the formula of Tommy constantly playing a chess game against his opponents, while as with this season, the 'vendetta' was a bit all over the place. Sometimes, it felt like a chess game, sometimes it was just a straight up shoot-out, sometimes there was trickery but very, very little of it. A couple pros/cons: PROS: -Cillian Murphy x100 -as usual, the shots/cinematography, so gorgeous. -I LOVE that Charlotte Riley re-appeared, shes one of my only favs of Tommy's shitty line-up of love interests. I loved MAy's scenes with Tommy, they were exactly what I wanted (minus fucking Lizzie) -Alfie's incremental development up until that intense ending. a few stunning scenes: ep1: Tommy v butcher/mafia showdown , the shoot-out between John+ Michael vs. Italians and the aftermath of it; ep6: Arthur's return -Ada-always a favourite. CONS: -Adrian Brody's Godfather routine like omg. Who are you trying to kid, man. That accent was so distracting. I like that the character outsmarted Tommy a few times, but I wish the plan against Luca Changretta was more strategic...it felt pretty haphazard. -Lizzie...ike why is this character given so much importance??? She could have died in season 1 and it wouldn't have impacted the show whatsoever. I had that she playing a progressively larger role and I hate hate hate her new thing with Tommy, fuck. Go away Lizzie. (and bring May back) -Polly, I go back and forth on. I like her role from the earlier seasons, but understand why we had this change. I just found her character more tedious this time around. -Jessie Eden...idk, there are times where I liked the character but I feel like this show's downfall is it's inability to consistently write good female characters. Ada aside, most of the female leads on the show are awful (Esme, Linda, Lizzie fml) or inconsistent (Jessie, Polly). I hated Tommy trying to woo Jessie and I felt like Jessie's character could have been much more effective and awe-inspiring were it not for her final few scenes. I also just found her miscast. -Esme and Linda, Jesus Christ. I hate both of them. Glad Esme left. hope it's forever.

So I have a question. Is this basically a lesser Boardwalk Empire?

So I have a question. Is this basically a lesser Boardwalk Empire? I generally wouldn't want to compare a finished show to an unfinished one, but I'd say these two are about on par with each other and if I had to choose the better one, I actually think I'd say Peaky (but, again, this is where the problem with the comparison arises, Boardwalk has already had a slight decline for its final season, whereas Peaky has not reached that point yet but very well could...). It's certainly no formalist HBO drama and doesn't give a shit about anachronism, but the way it plays fast and loose with the material sets such a perfect tone for this bonkers gangster saga. The characters are unforgettable ... the soundtrack is aces ... the cinematography is goddamn gorgeous. It's fun, it's addicting, it's absorbing ... and it has a unique tone, very much a totally different thing from Boardwalk, which is obviously an excellent, top-tier series in its own right, but they're so different that I'd never say the existence of one negates the necessity for the other.

Started and finished all 4 seasons over the last 2 weeks. Really great stuff. There are the occasional plot conveniences and sometimes things feel rushed, but neither of these takeaway too much from all the positive. Cillian Murphy just kills it and the majority of the supporting performances are really on point. Great production values and cinematography.

I was about to post the same thing.
If there was a release date, I'd be more hyped (although I didn't really like season 4).
