Yeah feels like she'll be the Seraphite Prophet that we'll actually get to see for a stretch. Fingers-crossed for a Jeffery Wright is Isaac casting news. If the rumours that Part II is going to be split across Seasons 2 and 3, I imagine we're going to actually see a lot more of the Seraphites and the WLF, especially as Abby will be more of a focal character and we won't necessarily need the flashback structure of the game. But we'll see. Jeffrey Wright feels like a no-brainer to reprise his role as Isaac, considering his relationship with HBO, his newly minted Oscar nominee status, and there's precedent in role reprisal with Marlene in Season 1.

I like this show a lot. It has a better Season 1 than most of my favorites. I think by the end of its run, it's gonna be a Top 10 all time show.
Here's how I'd rank it:
1. Episode 2 - Infected
This one resembled the game the most. The production design and the shivy knife Ellie used was exactly like the game. And that Jakarta intro..... dayum. That's how you do a dready post-apocalyptic set up. Can't think of a better intro than that.
2. Episode 8 - When We Are in Need
This is the 2nd highest rated episode on IMDB. I get some will feel the cannibal story is just a bad insert, but I didn't mind it. Because by the time it was obvious that it's a society of cannibals, I had already soaked in most of it. Ellie's fight for survival in this episode was the highlight. That move where she put up the farce that she was infected, and bit her pedo rapist and then mocked him with "everything happens for a reason" or something was a really clever touch. I honestly thought Joel would wake up and save the day and that would make for the moment of heroism, but it ended up being a sort of overshadowing of the fact that Ellie was indeed The One, and there's a reason she is The One... as shown by her survival abilities, and her savviness with tools.
3. Episode 5 - Endure and Survive
A really weak start, but the finale was really entertaining. That whole pack of zombies crawling out of the hole was a real shock to my system. Tho - first time I ever felt Melanie Lynskey dragged anything down. But damn did she underact badly..... where's the villany here? It feels like something she can do well, but... didn't. She was great in Perks of Being a Wallflower most recently. She can do grieving and destructive emotional vacancy very well, but no real place for it here with the character she has.
4. Episode 1 - When You're Lost in the Darkness
Tense but maybe I'd prefer more tension of the beginning. This, unlike the other episodes, seemed to start well but end a little less interesting. Still in the upper half of the episodes tho.
5. Episode 3 - Long, Long, Time
I might've found this one unnecessary because it doesn't have anything to do with the central premise, but it ended up being a really real and intimate homosexual love story. It also gave off the vibes of the beginning of Joel and Ellie's long journey.
6. Episode 6 - Kin
The Ellie vs Joel "What are you scared of?" emotional exchange was the only thing I really care for, but it was a good highpoint. Ellie got some real nice dialogue and some emotional scenes where I felt she clearly spoke from the heart.
7. Episode 7 - Left Behind
Nice Ellie origins depiction, but the first 40 minutes were too boring wandering around that mall simply doing bff things together. Maybe make a search for a retrieval of an essential tool as being the reason they were in that mall for so long. That would've gave the audience some anticipation.
8. Episode 9 - Look for the Light
Yet another Ellie origins depiction, but after the Origins at the beginning, the rest was just getting ready for Season 2.
9. Episode 4 - Please Hold My Hand
Should've just blended in with Episode 5, and take away some of the early Episode 5 stuff. As it is, it just feels like a warm-up and therefore not very significant. Same thing with Episode 9.

I don't quite agree here. I do think Kathleen as a character is one of the series's weak points because it feels like they had a vague idea of a great character but not enough time to really go in depth with her, but I feel Lynskey brought a lot to the role and really fleshed it out. The problem is that I feel like the whole Kansas City arc was just rushed and I wasn't really thrilled with how they basically had all the villainous characters act like idiots in their pursuit of Sam/Henry. I get what they were going for, but it felt like the first draft of an idea. And I think the scene where Kathleen points a gun at Sam/Henry with a whole-ass horde of infected are raging behind her was pretty laughable. I don't fault Lynskey for any of it, though. The scene where she goes back to kill John Getz, for instance, is such a good moment of silent acting.

Four new cast members added to The Last of Us part 2
Nothing really noteworthy here except they all seem to really look like their video game counterparts, particularly Barer as Mal. I was curious on how big of a name they'd go for Owen considering the amount of focus he gets in the game compared to the others.
