Which actors who get credit for comedic roles do you think are overrated? James Franco is one for me. I never found him funny in his most acclaimed comedic roles such as Pineapple Express.
Of topic, I do think Leo is brilliant in comedic roles and wouldn't mind him playing them for the rest of his career.

Goldie Hawn never made me laugh, smile, nada DiCaprio has remarkably done it all this decade really - I remember in the old IMDB days seeing many threads of actors who badly need to do a comedy and he'd always come up - he's totally shut that argument down in the 2010s....

I was one of those people who doubted him but he proved me wrong 😁.

Rebel Wilson. Her schtick got old a long time ago. I don't want to pick on just women, but Tiffany Haddish immediately comes to mind like Rebel her shtick grew old fast, and I was rooting for them at one time. Same with Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon on SNL, who futuretrunks also mentioned. It's not their faults, at least I would guess it's not, that SNL just overused them even in things that maybe someone else would have been a better fit for. I think that Wiig still had moments, but I just don't find McKinnon funny because I already know all the beats that she's going to hit even before she does it. On the men's side, I'm not sure. Like I liked early Adam Sandler, and I think Jim Carrey is funny, but there were times when I was just over them. I think that's about me getting tired of them rather than them being overrated. I'll echo wallsofjericho's mention of James Franco. Sometimes he's okay, but I feel like he thinks he's funnier than he actually is. Sometimes I get that same smug vibe from others from his clique, but at least they can be funny. Mike Myers - Like I liked him to a point, but then it seemed like he really only had 3 characters that he could do, and then he became a lot less funny. Russell Brand - Sometimes he can be funny, but I just never really bought into the hype. Josh Gad - I guess he's the one of the go to white big guys now, and while Kevin James might not be Meryl Streep, at least I think he's funny. Gad can actually be good as an actor, but I just don't think he should be a go to big funny actor. Steve Carell - I've found him overrated in his dramatic roles lately too, lol, but just thinking about his "funny" moments in Welcome to Marwen and Vice makes me want to include him on this list.

Yup. I remember seeing threads on Leo should be in the Hangover sequel. It might not have been a bad idea. Then again, we will never know. It all worked out for him.

I hesitated to mention Martin because he didn't even try to be relevant in recent decades (but fuck him anyway compared to an Eddie Murphy), but Bill Murray is to me outrageously unfunny. Lazy Deadpan ran into the ground, where he has no actual amusing performances post-Space Jam and the meta Coffee and Cigarettes. He just became a schtick artist with a pockmarked face aligned to some burgeoning directorial talents (Anderson and Coppola).

Can't disagree with the OP regarding Franco. He is terrible in pretty much everything (whether its drama or comedy)
Another one would be his friend Seth Rogen. Horribly unfunny in pretty much everything and I blame Apatow for putting him on.

I vastly prefer Jim Carrey in dramatic roles than in comedic ones.

Kevin Hart and most of all Sacha Baron Cohen.
I can barely stand the guy. Stupid sense of humor, stupid expressions and line delivery, unbearable movies.

Since some people have mentioned him as being funny in this thread (and his movies still do so well) Adam Sandler. His whole act is just acting dumb. And not funny-dumb like Peter Sellers would do so often, just regular dumb. You're a regular guy who's only interested in beer, sports, and models in bikinis, I get it, not sure why this is supposed to be so funny. I've seen a couple of his 90's movies that are supported to be "the good ones" and the only thing I can ever remember laughing at was the "you receive no points" scene in Billy Madison which wasn't even him. If those are "the good ones" I really don't want to see the bad ones.
I also want someone to kill Josh Gad with a shovel.
