I honestly don’t know if Parasite is my number 1, but it’s pretty high up there. Regardless I kind of want it to win. It would be a winner that I think would hold up 10 years later. It would be making history. It certainly would be a step above last year. It would be a big win for Neon. As criticized as the Academy tends to be for valid reasons, I think few if any would complain.

Parasite or The Irishman.

Parasite is the best of the nominees and its victory would be a historical landmark. I'd be shocked and delighted if it wins but 1917 is terrific too and would be one of the best winners of the decade.

I'm rooting for Parasite because 1) it's a masterpiece, 2) it's the most deserving in a really great lineup, and 3) I'd be thrilled to finally see a foreign language film take the top prize. I'd also be happy with Little Women (my personal fave of the year) or The Irishman winning, although it looks like neither of them stand a chance.
I really, really like Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, but if they're going to give the top prize to an aging auteur's late career masterwork I'd be kind of pissed if they awarded Tarantino's film over Scorsese's. But still, that'd be a much better outcome than 1917 winning, which is the exact type of boring vanilla movie bound to be forgotten in three years that the Academy WOULD award Best Picture.

I haven't seen any of them. None of them look very good. I'm choosing Parasite simply because its foreign and I'd like to see that happen. However, I'm not the biggest Bong fan and this sounds very, uh... Bong.
Hollywood looks cool enough, and I'm one of the people that actually liked TH8 a lot and thinks it was a far more intelligent look at racism than, say, Blackkklansman or Get Out. So a big part of me is hoping that Tarantino gets his award because he's making much smarter films than people are giving him credit for.
Joker looks cool, but the divisive reactions give me pause.
Irishman looks really good, but bah, everyone says that Scorsese's movies are good and then they wind up being average at best and it just makes me sad. Unless he makes an actual good movie, in which case nobody will give it the time of day. I'm looking at The Color of Money, Kundun, Shutter Island. *sigh*
Jojo looks like trash. LW is Gerwig, so there's a 99% probability that it is trash despite looking decent. 1917 looks boooooring. What else is there? Oh, Ford v Ferrari looks kinda cool. And whatever the other one is, I'm sure it looks fine or whatever, who cares. OH SHIT IT'S MARRIAGE STORY OH GOD THAT HACK BAUMBACH BURN IT FUCKING BURN IT

Out of the realistic choices, Parasite would be my favorite.
If it were out of all the nominees, I’d be happy with The Irishman, Little Women, or Marriage Story winning.
I liked Ford v Ferrari, but I don’t think I’d be happy if it did win. Same with 1917. It wouldn’t be a bad win especially compared to what won last year, but it just seems disappointing compared to what was nominated this year.
I also liked parts of Joker and OUATIH, but I’m glad that they probably won’t win.
Finally the only movie I really didn’t like much would be Jojo Rabbit. It had some parts that I enjoyed, but I’m just over the TIFF winner going onto win Best Picture after last year.

The Irishman or Parasite.
But I guess I'd also be fine with 1917.

Parasite and the others aren't close. But a distant runner-up would be The Irishman. Haven't seen Little Women or 1917 yet but will this week.

Jojo is my #1. Although Parasite and 1917 are pretty close. I will have to re-watch all of them for my final final call. Jojo had me laughing at the same time, I was emotionally moved. The scene where Jojo discovers his mom being hanged was so beautifully crafted . It somehow manged to be both a comedy and a tragedy. Parasite and 1917 were 2 hour thrill rides I didn't want to leave. They were both deceptively simply, but deals with complex themes.

Parasite is still my favorite of the year, so that. But I would't mind a Joker win, just to see the meltdowns in here 😂

Since we're picking - The Irishman since it's my number 1 of the year and maybe #1 English language of the decade - I love Parasite (my #3 overall and #2 non-doc) but it involves illogical or hard to believe at least plot mechanics.
The Irishman has none of that gimmickry in the plot at least - it is unrelenting, merciless and absolutely logical in how it unravels. They are the 2 best films of the year by a whole lot, regardless......

1917. What Mendes pulled off here was something special.

1917
But I have only seen 1917, Joker & Jojo Rabbit of the nominees this year. I don't think there's been a year since I got into film I've seen so few of the Oscar nominees.
I loved Joker, but not best picture level love. But I wouldn't begrudge it if it won - it could encourage more of that kind of film to do more interesting things.
I have no concept of how Jojo Rabbit is even nominated though. Not that I hated it - I can hate a film that wins Best Picture but still appreciate elements and why others and the Academy might awards it. I thought Jojo Rabbit was merely an alright film. One I didn't like much, but nothing astounding about it so I'm surprised how well it has been taken to. It's hard to understand for me. I would definitely hate that to get any Oscars to be frank.

The Irishman is my favourite, but considering at this point the only realistic options are 1917 or Parasite I'd pick Parasite.

I'd be really happy with either Joker or 1917. 1917 because it is actually my favorite of the year and Joker for the LOL's and sticking it to the OTT virtue signalling haters.
Really it's a win in my book if the BP winner is even good so wouldn't mind Irishman, OUATIH, or Ford vs Ferrari (that ain't winning, though) either.
