I'm genuinely surprised that she was overall left out of the awards race. All the love went mainly to her 2 co-stars . I mean they were absolutely terrific no doubt (Theron being the MVP) but Kidman was no slouch either. Her acting is nuanced and she brings an energetic confidence to the film that many people should applaud. She portrays Gretchen Carlson with great sympathy and grit. My ranking :
Theron Kidman Robbie

I do think Theron and Robbie were better but there weren't really any weak links on this cast that I can think of (wasn't crazy about any of 'em but they were all solid). Kidman's probably better than half the SA nominees this decade.

Kidman is as good as Robbie (it helps that her character was better written and more fully realized), but it's just hard to completely believe her and not be distracted when her face is puffy and stiff with botox. I wish she had just let herself age naturally or at least picked a better doctor.

She's perfectly serviceable, but that's about it.

I thought it was her best performance in a long time and as much as I love Margot,Nicole was far more deserving of a nomination.
1:Theron 2:Kidman 3:Robbie 4:McKinnon

She isn't. Theron and Robbie impressed me way more.

I think she's good but minor - she doesn't actually get Oscar nodded much (4 nods) and yet we never - ever - hear "maybe her peers don't really like her?" the way we hear that "the industry" loves Laura Dern and Willem Dafoe. Why is that exactly - how do we know who they love or don't - it can't just be nods since nods can be bought, manipulated, controlled right? I think we come to expect nods for her when she's not close despite appearing close - I mean there's quite a discrepancy between what is always happening with Kidman and reality.....it's that thing I say a lot with her: she's a PR media team non-stop frenzy, and sometimes it results in say (inflated?) Golden Globe nods - 14 nods now (yikes!) or something - and in the last week these puff-piece stories went out on her in the media too: No Big Little Lies 3 in interviews, her sexy bikini pics, a new interview saying she went through a period where she didn't make good choices (was that Destroyer/Goldfinch? kidding ), The Undoing set photos, donating 500K for Australia fires with her dreamy husband........Oscar nod, no Oscar nod, her media PR never rests regardless - there's never been anything like it that I can recall.....

I'm of two minds. She was MVP but not Oscar worthy IMO, but still better than most of that awful lineup.

Nobody in Bombshell is Oscar worthy. Unfortunately I have to second this. Robbie nailed that one scene but nothing special other than that and Kidman was marginally better than her given how little she was given to do.

What weight does the term "Oscar worthy" even carry in a universe where this performance gets nominated?? If the bar is that low, 95% of film performances are "Oscar worthy"

If the bar is that low, 95% of film performances are "Oscar worthy" I know it's quite an unpopular opinion on this forum but I think Eddie gave a beautiful and touching performance in THE DANISH GIRL. I have no problem whatsoever with his nomination. The Danish Girl >>>The Theory of Everything

Oh honey, you really must stop blaming me if your life didn't work out how you wanted it to. It's not my fault I'm loved by more than one person... it is exhausting for me as well.

She's as worthy as Robbie, and I don't think Robbie deserved her nod, so...

I think she’s pretty good but I’d still give the edge to Robbie so I’m not exactly surprised she didn’t get in.
