This could be really big. Fox Searchlight + followup for McDonagh right after TBOEM + probable large male cast(?).
Haven't read the book, so I don't know who would be good choices to be cast, and I can't find anything on Wiki just Amazon's summary which wasn't very helpful.

Brendan Gleeson & Ralph Fiennes reunion?
Rockwell is probably in too.

Odd choice of project, I'd rather he adapt his own (great) work. We're gonna be over-Poped! Seems there are about five or more major roles here for older actors - who'll be cast? The production company recently worked with Tom Courtenay, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy..... but then there's this about McDonagh from a '98 LA Times article....

Honestly, a black comedy about cardinals voting for a new pope sounds right up McDonagh's alley.

Hmmmmmmm........Gleeson is seemingly in Macbeth so I'm not sure he'd be in but maybe.......would love to see him cast some great international actors and not merely UK ones necessarily...... Italian acting grand master Sergio Castellitto would be right up his alley:

Finally! Was already waiting that he chooses a new film project. Didn't read Conclave, but Harris' books are mostly quite rich in content and most of the time very fitting to make a good film out of them. Also they leave usually enough room to make changes - if McDonagh wants this and Harris agrees.

Two international actors I used to mix up - both might work here: Rade Šerbedžija and Tchéky Karyo

Fingers crossed adapting someone elses work will make him less useless than he was the last time round. Probably not, but I can't quite get over how quickly this dude has sunk into inanity since heading to the big screen, and there has to be hope. That fire bombing scene in that previous piece of shit still makes me laugh every time I think about it.

This is underway now with Edward Berger (All Quiet On The Western Front) at the helm, starring... Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini, and [ pacinoyes called it!] Sergio Castellitto !!

This is a promising date. If it brings any of Fiennes, Lithgow or Tucci back to the Oscar race, I'll be happy.

Fiennes AND Castellitto is a potentially awesome fireworks show if they interact..........they are both master actors........Castellitto is - at times - in his long career a kind of sly magician.....love him
