Rewatched this recently and was still really engaged. Gyllenhaal’s performance has really grown on me and Dano is pretty great. Don’t really mind Jackman’s OTT bits because it’s probaby pretty close to how someone would act in reality. Villeneuve’s direction is fantastic and of course Deakins’ work speaks for itself.

I'm not really a fan of Villeneuve but this is my favorite thing he's done. Definitely an engaging watch.

It’s just an immaculately crafted film from top to bottom. Taut and suspenseful, great ensemble and a beautifully haunting score from the late Jóhann Jóhannsson. The Zodiac of the 2010’s.

My #3 for 2013, and maybe one of the Top 5 thrillers of the entire decade. Great movie, but works especially well as a thriller. Spellbinding!! ❤

I'm in the minority because I just like it where it seems to provoke a stronger reaction from people. The acting though is solid/good (and I never liked Dano in anything except Love & Mercy).
Something about this movie really evoked TV to me much more than a film - like a longer Criminal Minds episode or something like that........but I do think it works for what it is too and is worth a watch. Lots of people with good taste love it.....
~ (maybe a bit less than) 7/10

One of the rare times I liked Gyllenhaal, but overall the film is well made with a shitty, shitty script.

Really need to see this again. Almost watched it a couple times but never pulled the trigger. Gyllenhaal is SO GOOD.

I liked it a lot. The part with the snakes in the suitcases was freaky as hell. Hugh, Jake were both strong leads. solid 8/10

It was very creative & clever. The film only continues to get better on re-watch for me. Perfect direction, acting & photography along with the pacing of the film. Gyllenhaal had a great decade of performances, yet it is mind-boggling he did not receive a nomination for this film. It is a long shot for this to happen though I would love to see Villeneuve/Gyllenhaal team up once more for a spin-off of Prisoners, focusing on Detective Loki.

It's merits are obvious, but I remember that the 3rd act really put me off (the way Leo explains the twist and her motivations, the snake bit). Even that Radiohead song didn't help.

It's well-directed certainly, but there's always something off with the writing in Villeneuve's movies (narrative structure and logic more than dialog usually). He really needs to find a totally unimpeachable script.

His best after Sicario. Kind of wish he'd go back to making films like this.

Long time since I saw it, but I wasn’t a big fan: it wasn’t that Jake G was bad, but his blinking tic kept making me laugh & I kept imagining him thinking hard about doing that & inventing an unnecessary back story which took me out of the film. It was back in the days of pre-Nightcrawler Jake, when he could be so good, yet I felt he usually always wanted the audience to love him too. And I wanted him to let us hate his character!
Hugh J really is bad here though. Sorry Hugh, I love Wolverine! And I love The Greatest Showman!
Always love Dano. Here is no exception to that. He’s great, as ever.
I remember there being something off about the film for me too. Not as much as bad, but just not quite working either. But I saw it in a cinema (the only time I’ve been in a cinema where there were loads of girls who would scream inappropriately every time Jake appeared on screen. I felt ashamed to think I might be grouped with them.) so it is aaaggges since I saw it & I can’t now recall exactly the details or the why of that.
