Leandra Leal - A Wolf At The Door (2013) - On TUBI - I put this on my Best of the Decade list when we did the 2010s - it isn't so much underrated as underseen and it's FREE on TUBI so it's your own fault. Sexy, seething, childish, child-like and unforgettable.........this is one of the great "missed" performances on this board.........which is typical because you're mostly toxic males, and horrible, horrible people obviously ......watch it ffs
Rebecca Hall - Christine (2016) On TUBI - The best English langauge female lead of 2016 .......a performance almost painful to watch and to fully comprehend in how painful it is in and how everything about her job - mirrors, cameras, lights, the audience, makeup - and crucially "sounds" which she is always just "almost hearing" in her cluttered mind and is all bubbling under the surface.
This performance rethinks the "mentally ill / fragile" female cliche.....also "best of decade" level btw
Side note:
A somewhat overrated one - but I do get it - Vicky Krieps - who is really good in Phantom Thread and underrated so she fits this list .......but people who equate her with DDL are overrating it - a lot - it's not that she is not his equal in general obviously - but she is not his equal - in ANY way in that movie - that's like watching Kitty Winn in Panic in Needle Park and thinking she's Pacino's "equal" in that performance itself (she's not either) - Krieps (and Winn) is not the performance that drives their film - it is the male in both cases to an amazing degree, repeatedly......it's the old "it's so underrated, it's become overrated thing"!......so Krieps IS underrated and she should have been nodded, yes ....but Day-Lewis is on a whole other level in that movie......and I regularly criticize Day-Lewis - he's not infallible (at all) to me.......but not that time ....
