This magazine cover was 1/7/80 - no Oscar yet but she was obviously coming and this is pretty daring at the time. She was 30. So, who do you got - 1/7/20 is coming yanno - you can only pick one........my hunch is Saoirse Ronan will run away with this but I'm not asking for best actress just who will typify the next decade and be the best actress. Bold predictions/interesting explanations preferred!

yeah I was gonna say Ronan. She's the full package. Gorgeous, extremely charismatic/likable, exceptionally talented, versatile (moreso than Stone), picks consistently visible and prestige-y projects, comes off as wholesome and grounded, she's already racked up a bunch of nominations and accolades and she shows no signs of slowing down. She's just going to keep getting bigger and bigger in the 2020s.

As everyone probably knows I love Saoirse but she doesn't seem interested in being a big movie star. The last really big commercial thing (in terms of its aspirations, it bombed) she did was The Host and that was when she was basically still a kid. I think she'll continue on her current route doing solid dramas and racking up lots of nods with probably a win coming.
Fair or not, actresses seem to peak earlier so it will probably be another ingenue who comes up and has a big string of movies in the middle of the decade like Lawrence or Stone.
I could see Alicia Vikander or Rooney Mara getting really big if either of them wanted to go for it over the next few years.

Ronan seems like the defaul choice here but as Countjohn said, I'm not sure she's willing to play the game constantly as Lawrence/Stone even Vikander did this decade. But sure she's reliable and has the ambition to pursue the roles. It could've been easy for here to try agin a franchise after Lady Bird, yet she went for On Chesil Beach/Little Women.
I think Florence Pugh is more open to the Hollywood game, she's already involved in the Marvel Universe, and she's in the perfect age to be cast in roles that built a movie star.
On the other hand, Carey Mulligan/Mia Wasikowska/Alicia Vikander/Rooney Mara are in the age gap Streep built her legacy in the 80s, definitely is one of the most interesting periods for an actor and all of them have knocked it out of the park before so is also possible fo them to built a resume like Streep in 80s or Williams/Adams did this decade. Fingers crossed, loved them all, well, all minus Roons, but like her a lot.

I have always loved that cover so much! I'm thinking Margot Robbie. Soon to be 30. She's stunningly beautiful (a more petite Anita Ekberg) and has a touch of Streep in that she's incredibly versatile from a technical standpoint - she's nailed every accent/nationality she's tried so far.

Margot Robbie. She's beautiful, talented, an Oscar nominee, worked with Auteurs (Scorsese, Tarantino), doing franchise movies and she's producing movies too. I don't know about her being the next Streep but she could be the next big star among actresses.

Saoirse of course is doing well, but the kinds of roles she's taking on seem too similar, so she'd do well to shake things up (play a villain, do a broad comedy, utilize sex appeal, etc.). Pugh has everything she needs to be Winslet 2.0, she just needs to make sure she aligns with strong directors.

I think you're going to see Emma Stone, Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie cement themselves as the top triumvirate of the generation. Lawrence might back but I think it's gonna take a complete image and career overhaul to do so (but she's young enough to pull it off). Rooney Mara feels like she'll also be a major critical darling, sort of the Joaquin Phoenix of the group (in more ways than one). I also would keep an eye on Lupita Nyong'o as well. Jessie Buckley and Ana de Armas, now that I think about it. As for the younger ladies in contention, I think Thomasin McKenzie and Florence Pugh are in fine spots to rise.

Jennifer Lawrence flew far too high to disappear completely, unless she quits or cuts down on actual acting like Jolie. She'll always have residual star power, even when she's 60. But she's mostly just been lucky with her early choices and now makes shitty choices for the most part, so it may not matter in the end.

She's the Debra Winger of her day - all natural talent - big hits, Oscar nods but no real formal training.........that works for a while or works if you stay in certain roles that just require that specific talent but it rules out a whole lot right at the start that your not equipped to play. At a certain point you start losing roles to your trained peers. It's harder and easier for her because she won an Oscar and has outpaced Winger .......she's operating at higher risk/higher reward/potentially greater fall area career wise.

I could see Emma Stone winning another Oscar if Babylon is a success. I also forgot to mention Ronan when I was listing “due” actors I can see winning soon. Maybe for Ammonite?

I really hope my girl Brie ups her game and does some performance oriented movies and recreates her Room magic. I also hope Victoria Pedretti gets some cool movies. So talented!

This is just a gut feeling, but I'm gonna call Zoe Kazan as the breakthrough star of the roaring twenties. She just needs a Tilda Swinton like firecracker inspiration up her ass. Remember Swinton went thru a dry period from 1992-2007 (Orlando-thru-Michael Clayton) she didn't do anything that great except The Deep End. Zoe also needs a Swinton like inspiration to boost herself up out of the dregs of films that are below her potential. Plus... she's quite pretty too.

Oh honeys...Uhum... It's me, of course! I have a 90s style erotic thriller coming out this year, called Fatal Fatality, that's gonna sweep. It has a wonderful Hitchcockian plot twist at the end when it's revealed that the murder victim is the killer both parts played by me... actually I play all the parts as it was made during lockdown. I play sisters, who are identical septuplets. The movie contains adult themes of seduction, lesbian incest, jealousy, murder, and clothes borrowing. Expect multiple nominations. Also, this is the first time in the history of filmmaking that the cinematography has been done by a cat. The erratic camera movements and purring & licking sounds, really add to the tension. Brian De Palma with pets.
