I think De Niro is nomination worthy for The Irishman and is my number 2 pick for the year after Leo but I think Unforgiven is Clint's finest performance.

I'd have to mull it over and will come back to vote I guess - they're really close and as movies too - on the shortlist of best American films post-Apocalypse Now (last 40 years). Honestly I can't really compare The Irishman to anything maybe ever made for acting because the three performances are so connected to each other and especially Pacino and Pesci with De Niro himself - it gets awfully messy to try to compare them to anything in the traditional way. It almost feels like if I pick Eastwood I'm dissing 3 Irishman performances but its not fair to compare him to 3 performances either

I think De NIro's performance in the Irishman is one his best in years. But sorry Bob...

De Niro quite easily. Was Clint doing anything in Unforgiven other than his typical rough around the edges gristled aging man thing?

Eastwood is good in Unforgiven but it's just another typical performance from him. It was the movie that was exceptional.
De Niro I'd say is better, but not one of his best performances at all.

DeNiro is beyond mediocre in The Irishman. It's an epic role on paper, but he's no longer suited to it's requirements. He's not bad for the most part, but he's no more than serviceable at best. 25 years ago, he could have killed it. Eastwood doesn't do anything outside his comfort zone in Unforgiven, but it's a near perfect performance within that narrative. So Eastwood, easily.

De Niro gives one of the best performance of the 2010’s and one his best performances too. It’s especially astonishing what he does in the phone call scene and the scenes at the end. A masterclass in subtlety, and a perfect showcase for the best living actor at the top of his game.
So, him.

Eastwood comfortably. It's a spot on performance.
