Can't believe this is even a conversation. They are minor. Wannbe Oscar prognosticators who read Goldderby like the rest of us, and nominate any Aussies that might have a sniff of being in an Oscar nominated vehicle. LOL, funny how AACTAs are minor bumfuck Aussie awards when they nominate Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, but they're a barometer of greatness when it comes to Poop Scrud's own favorite, Nicole Kidman Hypocritical moron.

Selective screenshotting. Interesting. From my previous post on this thread I said: "I think the AACTAs are great if you are an Aussie, but I wouldn't read to much into them otherwise".There's literally zero contradiction to what I said The AACTASs are a big deal when it comes to assessing internal competition (Blanchett, Collette, Kidman, Davis etc) within that country and how Australian actors are percieved by their own, but mean bumblefuck all in the wider context of the Oscar race. Do you see me jumping for joy that they nominated Kidman for Bombshell? I don"t think for one moment Kidman is getting Oscar nominated because of that. But it does tell me the Australian Academy love her, and will take any opportunity to throw her name into the ring. These awards were literally invented to predict the Oscars, and throw in a few Aussie contenders for good measure. Anyone with access to Goldderby or Awardsdaily could make many of their calls. I know brevity isn't your thing, but please try and make your response short.

They should be worthless whether you're American, Aussie, or North Korean. That's like saying, "Golden Globes are a bunch of worthless starfucking awards. They're great if you're American, but I wouldn't read much into them otherwise."

You are being argumentative and hostile again for no reason, and on the verge of ruining another thread.
I'm out.

Scorsese, Tarantino, Mendes, Bong are ahead. Nope. Mendes is 5th at best. Late breaker, tech heavy contender with no acting contenders. Blatantly ripped off Nolan and Iñárritu as well, really hope the Academy sees through the gimmick

They also eat war movies up. 1917 is a combo of both. They'll eat it up. He ain't fifth. But I appreciate the trolling about Mendes ripping off somebody while pimping out Phillips

Joker did much better than Marriage Story at AACTA and Driver still managed to win, so that's a good sign for him. There may still be a couple of twists in that race yet.

I still think Phoenix has got it, but maybe it will be closer than I think. Also love that Ronan won. She won’t win the Oscar, but hopefully this means she’s getting that nomination.

Yup, this is the best thing to happen to Driver in weeks. These are actually industry voters who picked him over Phoenix despite liking Phoenix's film far more. This makes Saoirse hard to not predict for a nomination. And Pitt winning without Leo nominated and all three Irishman guys thrown in is a good sign since that's a worse case configuration for him that's yet to be replicated by any other major voting bodies.

I was thinking the other day if this could be another Picture/Director split year.
The more universally beloved Parasite winning Picture and Tarantino winning his overdue Directing Oscar would make sense on paper, but it almost feels too convenient.

Yeah, it's hard to go against Phoenix because he's very likely taking the Globe on Sunday and the narrative is going to take good shape once he wins that, but this at least opens up the possibility that the industry may go its own way.

Parasite's biggest problem, and a problem that is especially specific to the Oscars, is that it's going to take Foreign Language Film and that could dissuade voters from placing it at #1 for Best Picture too because they might think it's covered. And in a close race, that could make the difference. I actually think it's more likely Parasite takes Director than Picture. But I do think Parasite is #2 right now and it can definitely win Best Picture.

yeah we know that, Why is this AACTA award so important? Lol Because as opposed to all these critics awards, these are actually industry members voting.

According to Deadline: "The AACTA International Awards are voted on by the 150 members of the Australian Academy’s International Chapter, many of which overlap with AMPAS and BAFTA."
