Guy has the chops. Shame he never gets roles to show it.

Yes, to an extent. Quality actors like him who can carry a project never really go away in the industry. Look at people like Jude Law and Clive Owen. Both of them were "next big thing" actors like Bana, whose tilt at A-list leading man movie stardom faded pretty fast. But they are still in demand for quality projects, particularly prestige TV (where no one has to worry about floppong box office). Owen led The Knick for awhile, while Law currently leads The Young Pope.
As a "movie star", he's never going to happen. But as a prestige leading man on TV and streaming, there will be demand for someone like him. The right project might get him some juicy character parts in movies again. The guy just needs better project selection. It's something of a weakness.

What happened to him??

Nothing. He's still a successful working actor that's cast in semi-decent projects. But compared to his peak when he was the leading man in Steven Spielberg movies like Munich, I can see why people would consider him to have fallen off career wise. But he's not lapsed into direct to DVD B-movie hell or anything, so he can come back to prominence fairly easily. Just needs to pick his projects more wisely.

What I meant was, how did that happen? He was a hot prospect back then.
Just checked it out and his only two films I know in the past 10 years are King Arthur and Deliver Us from Evil... And they are not even decent films...

And they are not even decent films... His project selection is poor/mediocre. He started to get a reputation for leading box office failures, and that sort of killed his heat as a leading man in movies, and gave him less options to pick from. But even though things like Deliver Us From Evil and King Arthur are not memorable or good movies, they were still produced by major studios (Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers respectively). So that's the good news for Bana. Major studios still rate him enough to cast him...just not in their most prestige projects.

He was great in Dirty John, that Netflix limited series he did recently with Connie Britton. But yeah,it's curious how his career didn't really take off the way people thought it would. He had all tools to be a major leading man.

I'd love this. He's better than many of the so-called stars of the last years. If we talk about actors, who would have deserved much better careers, he's near the top of my list. Nod him for Black Hawk Down, Troy and Munich and he was great in Romulus, my Father as well (still haven't seen Chopper). Would be fantastic if he got good roles again.
Sadly I doubt it will happen.

Bana seems to have settled down in character roles, and maybe occasional starring roles in Australian productions or smaller films. I think that's a good point to be his in his career. He can weather bombs, and maybe occasionally he'll get the big juicy part that he can sink his teeth in. It's not like he's fallen off the map hard or something.

He could pull a Farrell-in-The Lobster, but I doubt that will happen at this point.

He sort of made a comeback last year with DIRTY JOHN and THE FORGIVEN . And he's going to star in one of the most anticipated films of 2020 : THE DRY based on Jane Harper's best selling novel. He's an incredibly gifted actor but never struck me as too overly ambitious (he's like the male version of Jennifer Connelly). He's still lives in Australia , only does 1 movie/year because he prefers spending time with family and racing cars.More power to him.

No hyperbole. Worst actor I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot (check me out). How's that? Worst actor ever? You've clearly never watched Julian Sands "acting" 😂🤣 And horrible actors do not get to be directed by the likes Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Curtis Hanson or Wolfgang Petersen. Just saying. 😁 That being said, you're perfectly entitled to your wrong opinion. 👍

Just saying. 😁 He sure did peter out. I wonder why. Not. The industry smartened up. Vince Colosimo could have given you that performance in Chopper. Bana's at his best in comedies (The Castle, Full Frontal, etc.). He's stiff and unnatural anywhere else, but I'll concede that he was serviceable in Munich. I'm always aware that he's aware of the camera. And I have no quarrel with Mr. Sands. He does his thing.

Never say never. However, it will not be an easy task. Whether it is TV/Film, it is always possible that he can make a comeback. He definitely has the talent to play many roles. Heck, I have yet to see Ford v. Ferrari though I can clearly see him playing Bale’s role, no problem. His early success got him many offers such as xXx & Cold Mountain, in which he turned down to be close to his home/family.

Yeah I agree with this. He had a Q&A with Indiewire about Dirty John along with his past work. As far as I remember, work is work for him & he had no regrets on his past decisions. His family always came first before work & I respect him for that.
