Wow, what a stunning film. It’s a bit narratively slim but justifiably so given the absolutely incredible animation on display, beautiful direction, mesmerizing and emotive score, and immersive sound design. It’s a film that while clearly not live action, breathes and moves in such an effortless way, you forget its medium entirely. Quiet, touching and very original. Might have bested Toy Story 4 for me in the Animated Feature category and I could see this being a stealth Oscar nominee, especially with Netflix’s backing.
9/10

Looooved this! Reminded me a lot of the Amazon series Undone (which is quite good) but this had more emotional weight for me. The animation is very creative and singular, it's familiar in a storybook sense but you also feel there's nothing quite like it cinematically. Everything from the colors to the textures are really remarkable, and it has an almost Miyazaki-esque quality to it -- I watched a (really great) video essay about Miyazaki recently that discussed how his animation is based on using one image every two or three frames rather than one image per frame (as is standard) and it looked to me like this film did the same thing, it achieves that same dreamlike slumber quality to it that really enhances the experience. And the score! Maybe my favorite score of the year. Tremendously beautiful. The main character is incredibly relatable without the film trying too hard to make him relatable, and I found his journey to be incredibly touching -- and very succinct, short and sweet, the film doesn't overstay its welcome at all and knows just the right amount of time it needs to get its point across. It's effortlessly creative and a very fantastical, charming little experience. Definitely dethrones Toy Story 4 as animated film of the year for me...

Yeah, this was pretty friggin’ great.
I won’t bemoan Toy Story 4 winning the Oscar, but man, I want this to win.

I really wanted to love this, and indeed the music and animation are on point, but I did not like the narrative at all.

It's FINE. A nice little story the impact of which didn't go beyond any kind of significant level for me but which was still enjoyable and sweet in its own peculiar kind of way. Gotta say, as simple as it was, I liked the dude's story more than the adventures of the arm.

A big disappoint for me, unfortunately. The story is incredibly off-putting and I wish the entire film had just followed the hand. Fantastic score and the animation is killer, but the story really brings it down.

I ( stupidly ) misread or didn't give enough thought to the female character of Gabrielle, thinking she was just a prop/cliche portrait of the same old character but that would be quite a stretch looking back, considering who Naoufel is as a human being, an incredibly lonely guy for reasons that are always on his mind, so, the moment a person gives him a small amount of attention, takes him by surprise and start making stories in his mind and demand reciprocity that was never stablished to begin with, and given his tragic past, at that point he's an obsessive and even violent person, fortunately the movie never judge his actions, I think the hand, which by the way, is one of my favourite characters of the year, deserved more screentime because the sense of detatchment is better thought-out in that storyline. Love the resolution but I think it goes there very abruptly.
I wouldn't mind if this wins the oscar, but Missing Link still the best of the bunch for me.

Reflecting on it, it does take a bit of a hit (and I still probably prefer Toy Story 4), but it’s still such a beautiful movie.

A dreamlike journey of a severed hand finding its body. Started off really great. The film's visuals and score evokes so many inexplicable feelings. I particularity liked the framing. Then it turns into a boy meets girl story and as good as that was i wanted more of the hand's point of view. That said i very much liked this sweet and melancholic little film. Its narratively slim but totally worth watching- 8.5/10
