You're too fast for me, lol.
-Since NBR doesn't have the best track record for their Best Picture winner matching the Oscar's probably bad for the Oscars.
-Netflix must have spent the most money with this group this year, lol. Still The Two Popes couldn't get in, and I thought it would be something that they'd go for.
-No Joker. It could just be this group that doesn't like it, like how BlacKkKlansmen missed here last year, but perhaps something to keep an eye on.
-Damn Zellweger is really going to sweep this year. Crazy.
-Sandler is one of those surprises they like to throw out there that will likely still miss a nomination.

It is really amazing that even though it's unlikely - Zellwegger and Bates may possibly be 2 time Oscar winners - you just never know with awards stuff. Also, once the BS ensemble awards are over is Brad Pitt is going to have to beat somebody where the voting body doesn't have a way out with ensemble and icon awards .......is he going to have such a big lead that he'll just keep winning anyway .....like at SAG too? I am thinking he just might......which is ok.......

Joker doing bad is surprising considering their usual WB bias. They love A24, so Uncut Gems doing well doesn't shock me.
Pitt and Zellwegger might just sweep everything.

Interesting list but for the love of god please don't let Miss Squinty win every Best Actress award.

Richard Jewell and Kathy Bates have officially entered the race. This is going to be interesting Maybe Kathy Bates just because she's a beloved veteran who hasn't been nominated in awhile and is playing the kind of role they love to nominate in Supporting Actress, but this feels sort of like when Eastwood won Best Actor for Gran Torino. I doubt it ends up going anywhere with late releases 1917 and Little Women likely to have better reviews than it.

The Pesci snub in the Icon award is insulting

NBR has a hard-on for Eastwood, which is why I predicted Bates. Still not sure she gets nominated, but this is a good start.

Yeah I'm wondering if Sandler is going to be this year's Ethan Hawke, where he gets in with all the regional critics' groups for a off-the-beaten-path A24 film but misses SAG and Oscars. I'd go a step further and wouldn't be surprised to see Uncut Gems do a repeat of First Reformed last year and randomly get in for screenplay.

I like Pesci as much as anybody, but he's not really an icon. It's not really an insult.

It's too bad that someone messed up her SAG placement by submitting her in lead. She probably would have got in if she had been submitted supporting especially as she does a lot of tv now and is a former winner, and WB sent out screeners pretty early.

Richard Jewell seems like one of those films that gets some buzz, but once reviews come out, and there not overwhelmingly positive, things die down. Maybe Bates can get a surprise slip through the cracks nomination, but I don't see it.
Surprised by that Parasite snub.

Joker really underperformed here. It shouldn't really matter in the long run, but NBR generally goes hard for Warner Brothers.

Sandler is fantastic in Uncut Gems. I'm in the tank for Driver, but can't argue with that at all.
Bates was so obvious.
If Pitt wins NYFCC tomorrow, it's pretty much over. The critics are the last people that should be going with him over either Irishman guy given the disparity in reviews for the films. And even if he loses, Pesci winning is hardily a bad thing for him since it'll just weaken Pitt's biggest competition with the industry (Pacino).

I wonder if the Icon Award had anything to do with Marty, Deniro or Pacino not winning their individual awards?

Yeah, and it seems like they went for "macho" films this year so that might be an even worse sign. I still think Phoenix wins, and it's nominated for Best Picture, but maybe it will be closer than I thought in Best Actor.

Are we predicting a Helen Mirren for The Queen-type sweep for Zellweger?

The Irishman is a more daring pick than usual for them, so good for them. Interesting Picture/Director split too... though if it happens at the Oscars I'd expect it to be the other way around (Once Upon a Time/Scorsese).
