I'm planning on watching the film in a few minutes and just learned that there are two versions here. The re-release is director's preferred version, but og cuts are usually my preference.

Didn't even know there existed two versions. I'm not even sure which of the ones I've seen I went with the shorter one, as reading about them, everyone thinks the shorter is better. Supposedly there's a lot more talking in the longer version, whereas the shorter one is closer to the other Hulot films in its near-silent approach.

Oh honey, there was also the black & white underground version where he spends it in a bordello... Les Vacances avec putains de Monsieur Hulot (1968) It was released in the US as Monsieur Hulot's Holiday Hoes, to make it difficult for people to ask for...
Please don't ask me how I know of these things...

Have to check at my parents house, cause they have the DVD. More important: How did you like it?

I watched this a few months ago and it was fine. I think it was on Kanopy. No clue which version it was, I didn't even realize there were two.

It was part of my favorite favorite Letterboxd list and that's why I watched the movie. And it definitely fits into that list. Not an especially funny film, but one that left me warmed.

I'm more partial to the extended version with the French plantation scene and the part where Mr. Hulot steals Kilgore's surfboard.

Pretty spot on with what I feel of it. It's charming and amusing with just two or three really funny scenes (that table tennis match ). I like it, but I prefer Mon Oncle and especially Playtime. But really have to rewatch it. Must be over 10 years that I saw it.
