Article from ScreenCrush about how the Department of Justice might terminate the Paramount Decrees. Netflix has a big foothold in the streaming wars, but I feel that they could end up being the ones hurt the most by it down the road because they don't have that much popular original content, and the other studios are going to keep stuff for their streaming services or we'll see even more record breaking prices for rights like with what happened with Friends and Seinfeld in the past year. I guess this is an avenue that they could try though, but not sure if it would be worth it beyond awards season where perhaps they have to scramble to find independent theaters willing to carry their films. Disney was the other studio mentioned, and that definitely worries me especially with the news of them already not letting most independent theaters have access to older movies to show.

So Netflix will own its own cinemas in order to show their own movies. For three weeks tops...

Only positive I can possibly imagine coming from this is if some indie studios band together and own some theaters to get their work out there.

Can’t we just break up Disney like Standard Oil way back in the day even if it means the guys at the top end up getting richer?
