The Birth of a Nation (1915), as much as I hated the content.
Unless we're counting short films, in which case it'd be Georges Melies' A Trip to the Moon (1902).

A Trip to the Moon is the oldest short film. Oldest full length is The Kid (1921)

The Kid (1921) 9/10 Wanted to watch The Birth of a Nation (1915) before watching The Birth of a Nation (2016), but it sounds racist and horrible.

A Trip to the Moon as far as any movie goes... but for a full length film, probably Birth of a Nation. I don't think I've seen anything earlier than that (though, I don't seek out silent films).

If you're talking about a feature film, 'The Birth of a Nation' (1915) - C (5/10).
