So Doctor Sleep continues its downfall... WB should be thankful its budget is only 45m, because otherwise it could have been another Blade Runner 2049, at the box office.

I'm seeing this tonight and I honestly don't know what to expect. BO flop but the reviews (what I've read at least) are not exactly disastrous...

It's supposed to be pretty good from what I've heard (I'll see it later), which is why I'm a bit bummed it's not doing better.

Ooof.Last Christmas is going to bomb hard. The budget is low enough that I can't imagine it'll be a huge write-off or anything, but yeah... I know he's trying to stretch his chops, but it's so weird that Paul Feig the guy behind some raunchy R-Rated stuff, made a honest to god schmaltzy romance, that turned out to apparently not have any self-awareness attached to it.

Dreadful weekend. That's appalling for Doctor Sleep, and even the weekend's surprise Midway is going to end up losing money, unless it blows up internationally. The budget for Midway is estimated as being 100m, so it needs to gross over 200m worldwide to be considered as technically breaking-even, but Lionsgate sold the overseas right (it was actually an independent production they picked-up), so they won't lose much, if anything on it. In that regard, I suppose it could be seen as a success.

Wow. A lot of movies so far in November are not having so much luck at the box office at all, let alone for their opening debuts. I didn't expected much large outcomes for Last Christmas or Playing with Fire, but even those two didn't seem to be doing so financially hot either. At least the indie movies in Jojo Rabbit and Parasite fared a lot better for their openings. The same goes for Harriet after last week ago.
I know movies like Terminator: Dark Fate and Arctic Dogs were out last week, but those continuing abysmal runs... I'm guessing that Dark Fate will no longer have a completed trilogy anymore. You can definitely tell that the distributors and marketers of Arctic Dogs either have low faith in that movie or couldn't afford to do much marketing for it.
I'm starting to think that Charlie's Angel might not be as lucky for next week too..

Ho-hum numbers all around. No movie made over 20m, which for a weekend in November is poor. Last Christmas's numbers are especially terrible, it even got beaten by The John Cena firetruck kids movie. At least Parasite is continuing to do well. Could make 22m, pre-Oscars. www.the-numbers.com/weekend-box-office-chart1 N Midway Lionsgate $17,500,000 3,242 $5,398 $17,500,000 1 2 N Doctor Sleep Warner Bros. $14,100,000 3,855 $3,658 $14,100,000 1 3 N Playing with Fire Paramount Pi… $12,800,000 3,125 $4,096 $12,800,000 1 4 N Last Christmas Universal $11,600,000 3,448 $3,364 $11,600,000 1 5 (1) Terminator: Dark Fate Paramount Pi… $10,799,870 -63% 4,086 $2,643 $48,457,000 2 6 (2) Joker Warner Bros. $9,200,000 -32% 2,806 $3,279 $313,491,507 6 7 (4) Harriet Focus Features $7,230,000 -38% 2,186 $3,307 $23,463,140 2 8 (6) Zombieland: Double Tap Sony Pictures $4,315,000 -42% 2,427 $1,778 $66,655,483 4 9 (7) Countdown STX Entertai… $2,800,000 -51% 1,829 $1,531 $22,232,505 3 10 (11) Parasite Neon $2,552,000 n/c 603 $4,232 $11,278,976 5

Ford v Ferrari is released next week too, but that's going to do pretty well I think.Dads are gonna turn out in force. It's tracking really well too. I could see it making over 100m. It's the exact kind of film that appeals heavily to older audiences, and it could also inject some life into the box office.
