So the discussion I had with scrudpup on the quotability between The Lighthouse and Dolemite Is My Name had me thinking: what is the most quotable movie ever made? I mean, obviously certain quotes have endured in the pop culture ether, but which film is packed with the most quotable lines, in and out of context?
For my money, I can think of few films to rival the sheer snappiness of Tombstone's dialogue. Man, damn near every line of that script is a work of art, perfectly calibrated and polished.
So what do you think? Which films would you say are the most quotable, both in a pop cultural sense and in a personal one?

Gone With The Wind is pretty damned enduring on the quotes front for a movie from 1939

The Godfather is one of the most quotable and spoofed movies ever.

In my personal experience, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Overall Pulp Fiction came to mind immediately.

You gotta put Scarface (DePalma version) up there as well, as it relates to pop culture.
Goodfellas also.
Wizard Of Oz
Top Gun
Training Day
Clueless
Star Wars (Original Trilogy)
The Princess Bride
This Is Spinal Tap
Beverly Hills Cop
Rocky

Still not getting the Dolemite Is My Name being "quotable" at all - the quotes are just from the original Dolemite film itself merely repeated in this ..........that's absurd to me. Anyway, in my family and with friends at least ........ Glengarry Glen Ross

I'm gonna be that millennial and say that I must've seen two thirds of the scenes in Mean Girls quoted verbatim either online or in real life.

Claiming Doletmite Is My Name can't be quotable because it cribs dialogue from the Rudy Ray Moore films is like claiming no straight Shakespeare adaptation can be considered quotable, or no adaptation of any play can be considered quotable. Or a number of adapted novels or graphic novels that take dialogue verbatim and put it in the movie. It all came from somewhere else.
A Clockwork Orange is quotable as fuck, but a lot of that great dialogue comes from Anthony Burgess novel.
Being original is not a prerequisite to being quotable. Movies adapt and steal shit all the time, and then it becomes part of that specific movie's lexicon.

Casablanca comes to mind.
French movie Les Tontons flingueurs is by far the most quotable movie I can think of but for a reason I ignore it never got the popularity it deserves overseas.

It was an entirely different medium - same thing with your Shakespeare example or novels. That isn't Dolemite Is My Name, see? Fncking ponderous man......

Heat is one of the most quotable films in recent decades. It's pretty much just a straight remake of LA Takedown, dialogue included .LA Takedown may have come first, but the same dialogue became much more quotable in Heat, because better actors make it sing (and more peope saw it). I don"t have all day to go back and forth on this, and lord knows you love to be right. But your take is very black and white and I choose to disagree. Moving swiftly on....

All of the Monty Python films (and the Flying Circus TV series) but especially the Holy Grail and Life of Brian.
Also, The Big Lebowski and Young Frankenstein.

Yeah I love to be right when I'm actually right I'm funny like that - you've now listed a TV show (LA Takedown), plays, books none of which are actual films like Dolemite Is Your Name is - literally quoting another film (Dolemite) made/written by someone else. Agree to disagree, good luck to you!

I cannot tell you how often my friends and I (and my brother, weirdly enough... who has the WORST taste in movies ever) imitate Colin Farrell's "little fookin coont" from In Bruges.

Casablanca is the first answer for this for me. Heat is another one. I've got a colleague with whom I exchange quotes of the Naked Gun series all the time. But this is rather for fun.

In my life it’s Empire Strikes Back as my name is Luke, so about 70-75% of the people over the age of 30 that I come in contact with immediately let me know they’ve seen the movie by saying they’re my father.
