I have memories of 2001 (A Beautiful Mind), 2003 (Return of the King), and 2005 (Crash).

In terms of winners it would be the 80th (No Country For Old Men) in terms of just enjoying the show I really loved the 75th (Chicago).

I've watched very few (3 or 4 maybe) but I remember enjoying the 2000 ceremony (Gladiator).

only started watching in 2010 ( and what a year to start ) and the shows this decade haven't been super memorable to me. I guess 2016 is my choice for the whole Moonlight/La La Land debacle. It might've hurt A LOT if the winning movie had been something I hated (like I can't imagine how I would've felt if that had happened in 2015 with Revenant and Spotlight) but the fact that I really really liked Moonlight just made it easier to enjoy that moment as the hilarious and bizarre mess it was.

The first one I saw was the Crash year, if it was good can't remember, the shocking twist probably blocked the nice moments, loved the Cotillard/Swinton year just for those two wins alone and even though Slumdog was winning everything, I recall enjoying the 2009 ceremony a lot, remains my favourite. On a side note, 2011 ( hosts, speeches ) and 2016 are the worst I've ever seen, for the second one I just quote Tina Fey's wise words: "This is some real Hollywood bullsh!t", unwatchable, don't know what kept me from turning off my tv.

2002 (for 2001) springs to mind. Whoopi had a strong opening monologue and you had some nice and memorable speeches. I recall 1997 (for 1996) being an entertaining one too.
Mostly lousy winners aside, I actually thought last years ended up being one of the best ones out of all the years I've watched.

My favorite show both in terms of how well-produced it was and the percentage of winners I was happy about was 2015's. You had those kickass montages in Sound Editing/Mixing, you had Fury Road riding high on the hog with six Oscars, you had Mark Rylance winning out, and the only really bad winner of the bunch (Vikander) still was trying her best, and I like to pretend it was for her actual supporting role that year.
