I'm going into this blind and it had me hooked from the get. So many questions but I'm here for the ride. Bateman continues to kill it in the directing department. I love that Steve Witting appeared as the therapist as they go way back to The Hogan Family.

Uh oh. Though I raved it on the last page - Ep3 felt dawn out and Ep4 was extremely badly written to a laughable degree.

BUMP I'm all for slow burns but this shit is really testing my patience damn. Episode 6 was pretty good. I agree about the slow burn but I think the problem is that this show works best with a binging option.

It's really spinning its wheels now. I'll stick with it to see how things tie up, but gosh I miss Bateman.

So I watched the first three episodes of this yesterday and I must say that I'm not overly impressed. I'm barely impressed at all. It's rather lifeless stuff at the moment. It was also rather shocking to see them cover a whole third of the novel within the five minutes of episode two.
I really feel like this could end up being a dragged out chore. Ten episodes always felt like far to much screen time for a 450 page book. Still, I'll see it through, and I'll hopefully be wrong.
Star of the show so far is Julianne Nicholson, but Erivo has made an impact in episode three. It's a shame that Holly couldn't be the Kingverse Holly, but I am pleased with her so far.

I'm struggling to think of a show that squandered its goodwill so quickly and thoroughly. The first two episodes had me hooked, but it got progressively dumber and more nonsensical as it went on, culminating in the wettest fart of a finale of any show I can recall.
There are certain King works that lend themselves to the miniseries format. 11/22/63 is one of the greatest adaptations of his work. It deserved to be a full-on miniseries. But even Richard Price couldn't salvage this one for long.

Honestly, the show becomes much more enjoyable if you pretend that Ben Mendelsohn's performance is just his actual reaction to the ridiculousness of the scripts.

Yeah, based on the reactions above and the fact that I'm four episodes in and not loving it (I'm barely liking it); I think I might give the rest of this a miss.

After the first two superb episodes I was really hyped for this, but it turned out to be an overly long disappointment.I have no idea what that mid credits scene with Holly was all about either. Its been a big hit though,so they will obviously bring it back for a second season.

I'm struggling to think of a show that squandered its goodwill so quickly and thoroughly.. The Night Of? I mean, as much as I fucking hated the way that Chandra storyline went (and I really, really do), the rest of the series was pretty damn solid and weathered the storm to the end. And that Chandra bit happened near the end of the show's run. This had two strong debut episodes and then crapped the bed right after.

And that Chandra bit happened near the end of the show's run. This had two strong debut episodes and then crapped the bed right after. Here's what I learned from The Night Of: 1) You can go up to an inmate in an open space, slit his throat, casually walk away, and no one will be the wiser. 2) Out of the thousands of food-delivery persons in NYC, you could be greeted by a man who just so happens to be the father of your client. 3) During a trial, you can pick up evidence like a knife with your bare hands as if you were about to butter your morning toast. 4) Despite not having a drop of blood on their clothes or body after waking up in the middle of an exceedingly blood crime scene, a person can still be convicted of the victim's murder because this fact is somehow not brought up before the judge and jury. Sorry, but the lapses in plausibility were just too numerous to count after a while. The show's pilot was dynamite, but it was a speedy spiral into ridiculousness after that. I should add that I haven't watched The Outsider and based on the reactions here that's probaly not going to change anytime soon.

Watch it twice.
Genius commentary on the supernatural and at its core, its fulfilling effect.

been trudging through this lately. Up to Ep8 so almost done. Yeah it's been slow and a bit goofy at times (the old lady jumping across the room--now there's an image I want to forget) but the perfs have kept it going. MVP is either Erivo or Nicholson but Mendelsohn and Winnhigham have been solid too.
this'll probably be a 7 or 7.5 when I finish it depending on how the finale goes.

ok, so this wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. A solid 7.5. Kind of slow but not the huge disappointment people were saying. There was enough atmosphere and forward momentum to keep things always at least semi-interesting, and the finale was fine. I liked the reveal of the outsider in the last episode. It was a predictable but satisfying standoff.
Marc Menchaca's perf especially sneaks up on you. He was explosive in the finale. Erivo still probably the MVP, followed by Nicholson or Menchaca (who I also just realized is Russ Langmore in Ozark), and somehow I went the whole seasons without spotting Paddy Considine in a major role. This cast was really stacked!
