Has anyone been watching yet - I know it just started but it looked really good, might dive into this weekend since it's um, you know the witching season and all.

1 episode in but no real scares except for a couple jumps and creepy old people and um how the lead is a bland Kristen Stewart knock-off.......if you watch make sure you are set to the original French - the US dub of this is awful.
Sort of herky jerky with its tone similar to The Kingdom but obviously not on that level (and I'm no Von Trier fan but to me that's his best).......this is 5 critics and 100% on RT so I'll keep watching but so far ........just a setup......and light jumps.

5 episodes in now and hitting it's stride - scary and sad episode - touches of Buffy too have come in.........and the good sense to use Sharon Van Etten's "Seventeen" and The Modern Lovers "Hospital" to great emotional effect in this episode.
Basically it's a French Stranger Things with less sci-fi ..........and more French young adults with alcohol dependency, witchcraft and Satan.......um love the little quotes that begin each episode too.
3 more to go......

There was a thread recently "Do you believe in ghosts?" and I for one, believe in ghosts, God, the Devil, witches and Keyser Söze and I believe Marianne is the most fun you can have this Halloween season frankly.
A quite entertaining, watchable, and only slightly ridiculous/cheesy witch based horror/drama that ends with an odd, slyly foreboding cliff hanger (scored to the Pixies no less!) that is ripe for a season 2 which clearly will not be as good as season 1......if they even try it and risk losing this perfect mix.
As said before, must be watched in the original French or don't bother watching it........this show is for people who don't want to be scared much (didn't scare me much tbh) but who rather want to spend time in the environment of things that actually are scary when you reflect back on them.
7.5/10 ...

Wise man .......
Stephen King
@stephenking If you're one of those sickos--like me--who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job. There are glints of humor that give it a STRANGER THINGS vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe.

Watched! It's a very entertaining October watch - a lot of King vibes (especially It) and Nightmare on Elm Street too. Could have a lot of fun picking out its references - Poe poster, Monkey's Paw in the thrift store, the famous Exorcist III scare, etc. But it's its own thing - the narrative restlessly unfolds and the unknown director Samuel Bodin has a quick, confident, exciting style. Netflix, Blumhouse, anybody, should be jumping at this guy. Random thoughts: Fantastic score throughout. Camille's glasses/turtleneck combo is like an 80s sorority slasher look. The inspector's back tattoo was the dumbest detail of the entire show. Actually scared me several times - witches lurking behind wardrobes gets to me I guess!
