Per Wikipedia’s definition, Twin films are films with the same or very similar plot, produced or released at the same time by two different film studios. Which do you prefer?

The Thin Red Line is the second best movie ever made.
Saving Private Ryan is not the first.

Well if I was a cynic (you pacinoyes?) I say SPR turns into a right wing BS lesson and The Thin Red Line is a hippie flower child's simplistic leftist version of war.......but for much of their runtimes they were neither of those things and for much of their runtimes both magnificent.
SPR starts in a genius way and pursues an existentialist and complex story that it then, inexplicably turns its back on.......TRL is poetic and lovely until like all of Malick films it has to resolve itself because he'd rather contemplate the stars or some bullshit than be bothered with annoying things like story arc.
TRL slightly because the ending of SPR is such a grotesque subversion of his films earlier scenes.......

TTRL has a very slight edge for me.

I understand why the two are always brought up together but I don't think they actually have that much in common apart from being two big war films released in one same year. That being said, I'm one of the folks who are huge fans of them both. SPR is one of my absolute all-time favorites though. 1998 has some crazy examples of twin movies though! Destroying asteroids movies, animated bug movies...

TTRL is pointless and forgettable. It doesn't even have the distinction of being that well-shot for a Malick film.
