I didn't vote since I'm WAY behind on most things television. I haven't even watched
The Sopranos, Mad Men, Deadwood, Friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or anything past season 1 of
Arrested Development (so "Pier Pressure" is the only one I've seen and also loved) which all seemed to dominate these lists (though surprised only one episode of
Friends made the list, always thought that was going to dominate Comedy). A few
Sunny episodes I wish made the list, but then again if I submitted a list it would have been about 98%
Sunny episodes, so probably better I didn't. "Nightman Cometh" is a beautiful #1 though, even if out of the ones that made the list I might prefer "The DENNIS System".
Same goes for Drama which would have been about 98%
The Wire episodes and I'm super happy that the highest episodes were "Middle Ground" and "Final Grades," though I could name dozens of others that should have comprised the top ten. I'm also VERY happy that a Season 5 episode made the cut (though "Late Editions" would have been my choice and is probably a top three ever episode of the show, but I'll take "Clarifications" - honestly watching the show again from beginning to end you really realize just how underappreciated that fifth season is, it gets a lot of flack but I think it's just as great as the rest of the show).
Also I'm very glad "Postpartum" was the highest-ranked
Shield episode as Season 5 is a masterpiece and that is the beautiful magnum opus of the show for me (though "Family Meeting" is a fantastic series finale as well). I'm very glad
Breaking Bad didn't dominate like I expected too. Maybe it's because everyone's favorites are in the last season? But I definitely expected more than just the one episode to make it in.
Wish that something from season 2 of
24 got in which is one of my favorite seasons of television (maybe Episode 9, 15, or 24 - the finale - from that season which are all brilliant masterworks IMO). Or even from Season 1 (particularly Episode 8 or the finale/pilot), or Season 5 (take your pick). Such a fantastic show that went off the rails with Season 6 on. But at least one should have made the list. Would be curious if anyone voted for any of them.
Also baffled by the two episodes of the US
Office that got in - not because they aren't great, but because I feel there are better ones. The second season of the U.S.
The Office is an all-timer for me and while I love "The Injury," I would have preferred "The Fire," "Casino Night," "Office Olympics," "The Client," "The Dundies," "Booze Cruise," (shit that was a great season), but glad at least one made it in (though "The Fire" and "Casino Night" specifically should have been top ten at least).
Anyway, who am I to complain since I didn't vote, but I can definitely guarantee I haven't seen nearly as much and perhaps if I see some of those shows I listed above which dominated these polls, I'd have a different opinion on it. Thanks for running this
Viced ! Would be very curious to see what would make the cut if we did an all-time list.
