Surprised to see that there is no thread for TIFF yet, so here it is.
The Personal History of David Copperfield just premiered but I'm way too fucking lazy to post reactions.

Just to actually contribute something to this thread that I've started, here's a few review blurbs from RT for Copperfield:

That doesn't sound to bad, though not exactly overwhelming. I really hope that Iannucci did justice to one of the 10 greatest novels ever written.

"unruly" "taste of blood" "blood-soaked period drama" "gritty and gothic" This is all sounding a bit too much like Macbeth. Can we also be expecting pretentious slow-mo and a murky videogame aesthetic?

The Copperfield reactions are surprising. Was expecting this to be Ianucci's foray into straight literary drama but that's not what it is at all apparently. Very interesting. Still intrigued but a little apprehensive now.

Alice Winocour's "Proxima", starring Eva Green & Matt Dillon, has been getting very positive reviews so far from Screen International (which called Green's performance a "career-best") and Hollywood Reporter.

Just doing a copy-paste job here. Might have some duplicates: Avi Saks is a fan of Booksmart ️* @sakskidz A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - What a fascinating movie. A really rocky opening. The direction is love or hate. A really bizarre middle sequence that may be the best thing ever. Might be Hanks’s best work. A love letter to Mister Rogers. Richard Lawson @rilaws A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a very sweet movie Joi @ TIFF @jumpedforjoi A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is equal parts hilarious and sweet. Tom Hanks nails the cadence and compassion of Fred Rogers. And Matthew Rhys is his perfect, pessimistic scene partner #TIFF19 Kevin McCarthy @kevinmccarthytv #ABeautifulDayInTheNeighborhood is a beautiful film that you fall more in love with as each frame passes by. Rhys’ performance is extraordinary. He grabs audience & doesn’t let go. Hanks’ Rogers is felt in every single frame especially when not on-camera. A magical/special film. Jordan Ruimy @mrruimy A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Whoever had the idea of casting Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers deserves a raise. Hanks is absolute perfection in Marielle Heller’s surprisingly hilarious, sweet and simple ode to an American icon. #TIFF Jake Hamilton @jakestakes A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD was...absolutely perfect. Tom Hanks gives — seriously — one of the best performances of his entire career. This isn’t just a movie we need right now — it’s a movie we will need forever. Bring the tissues — you’ll need the entire box. Brian Truitt @briantruitt A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is an interesting, sweet flick. Very meta, with a humorous vibe that takes away from some of the poignancy. But man, America’s Dad nails it - Tom Hanks does Mr. Rogers, Daniel Tiger and that world justice. #TIFF19 Jane Crowther @totalfilm_jane A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood will be too sweet for some but surrender yourself and it’s a gentle self-therapy session and communal appreciation of kindness. #tiff Lauren Bradshaw @flickchickdc Tom Hanks perfectly embodies Mr. Rodgers in #ABeautifulDayInTheNeighborhood. Every time he appeared, I felt his kindness radiating from the screen. A crowd-pleasing, emotional film that features strong performances from Hanks and the always amazing Matthew Rhys. #TIFF19 Kevin Polowy @djkevlar A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was not what I was expecting, but they found a clever way to profile a saint of a man by telling it through the eyes of the cynical journo who profiles him. Might not be enough Mr. Rogers, but Tom Hanks is absolutely perfect playing him. #TIFF Esther Zuckerman @ezwrites Marielle Heller’s touch is unmistakable in A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, which is less about Mister Rogers than about the idea of Mister Rogers, male vulnerability, and forgiveness. It’s a tearjerker, yes, but one that sneaks up on you #TIFF19 Pete Hammond @deadlinepete Toronto film festival: loved the Mr. Rogers movie A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood. Like The Two Popes a movie that we need right now! TomHanks is heading to the Oscars. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is essentially a Mister Rogers episode for grownups. The man himself remains opaque; this is not a story about him but about why we need him. Touching stuff, especially from Matthew Rhys. #TIFF19 A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is so much more @matthewrhys’s character’s film than Tom Hanks’s. Rhys gives a complex multi layered performance in a film which some may find overly sentimental, but which has unexpected darkness in it too #ABeautifulDayInTheNeighborhood twitter.com/lizo_mzimba/stat...00303583465472A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is easily the best Tom Hanks has been since Captain Phillips. Leave it to Marielle Heller, one of the loveliest filmmakers working today. twitter.com/tarantallegra/st...00526469001217A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: Marielle Heller found a very smart way to make a film about Fred Rogers. Tom Hanks does a great job portraying him. And the movie made me think a lot about what it takes to be present for other people. #TIFF19 twitter.com/Beccamford/statu...00443610537984A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Brilliant, emotionally-charged film. Tom Hanks gives a career best performance. Matthew Rhys belongs on the big screen. This film will leave you bubbling inside and longing for Mister Rogers more than ever. Oscars - it’s coming for you! twitter.com/margegram56/stat...00235707199489A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD: I'm leery of stories about famous figures framed by someone else's encounter with them, but in Heller's charming film it makes perfect sense — Tom Hanks' Fred Rogers is very human, but the distance lets him be a little magic as well. twitter.com/alisonwillmore/s...00947006693378
