Not one mention of The Mandalorian on the board yet. Get it together, Star Wars fans! I watched this forgetting who was in the show and jumped outta my chair. I'm in.

Some info -
Taika Waititi directed the finale - he's had quite the busy year. Cast: Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, Giancarlo Esposito, Nick Nolte, and the man the myth Werner Herzog for chrissake. Probably more surprises coming....

Goddamnit! I really don’t want Disney +. Even as a Disney fan, I don’t want to give them more money than they deserve. But... I want to watch this!

At least it will be pretty affordable out of the gate (will probably wait a few years until they have a huge prescriber base before they start jacking up the price).

If only out of curiosity, I’ll have to. Hell, even though I don’t like the Disney remakes, I’ve been to ALL of Disney’s movies this year. If nothing else, I could probably refer to the rest of the board what’s worth watching, and what’s worth steering clear of.

I totally forgot Herzog was in this lmao. I was actually kind of disappointed that the Boba Fett movie was scrapped, so this looks like a promising substitute.

Coming from someone who has been hugely critical of all the new SW films, this actually looks really good.

Big mistake not making Herzog a Hutt.

Looks interesting but I dunno. I'm a big SW fan and yet haven't decided if I'm gonna watch this...

The first episode was very good. Still a little uneven but holy shit that ending!!! Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte were a nice bonus. Favorite part aside from the ending was probably the droid always trying to self destruct during the fight, I feel he’s my spirit animal lol.

I dunno, that first episode didn't really hook me. Everything about it felt a bit too...mechanical. I felt no real engagement with the proceedings, everything seemed to be happening from a distance. Maybe they'll try to somehow make it more about characters or interesting world-building later on but this first episode was just this robotic sequences of events with the titular character going from point A to point B...and that's about it. Good effects, nice production design and sound but it all felt kinda cold. Gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of Greig Fraser and this has exactly that signature hollow digital look that he likes so much. But the biggest disappointment was probably the score. One thing that always made the SW franchise stand out was its classical grandiose approach to music. This is the first instance where I felt that the music was your typical modern generic electro-bullshit. Not a single memorable theme, very factory-like music. Kinda makes me worried about "Tenet" tbh.
So yeah, I'll keep watching and I hope that the next episodes will be more involving.

Pilot episodes are always among my least favorite episodes, because they’re still finding their footing. I think four or five is a better sampling, and I hope it’ll pick up.

I see the potential for great things, but like I said before, Pilots are always among the worst episodes of a show, so I’m hoping it’ll really pick up several episodes down the line.

I liked the first episode more than the second because the second seemed really short. Plus I knew that it was going to be about the lead character getting his "armor" so to speak back one by one through tests and what not, but even for Star Wars it was a little bit on the nose with what he had to do this episode. I expect it to follow a formula, but hopefully it will also give us more than going through a checklist of knightly things that he must do. Not to say that I didn't like it, but I guess after the first episode I wanted more information about who hired him and who hired IG-11 and why and what not. This had some great moments mostly involving Baby Yoda Jr. of course especially that big shocker moment and the other somewhat shocking moment (poor Kermit, maybe that was Frank Oz's revenge, lol); although I suspected that BYJ would have the Force , but I do wish the episodes were a bit longer.

Since it's already all over social media about Amy Sedaris being in The Mandalorian, I think it's okay to put here. I didn't realize that was her at first when I watched it last night. I just thought it was an older character actress that just happened to look like her as Jerri Blank. I also didn't realize that they modeled her after Sigourney Weaver in the Alien franchise.

So what's the board consensus on this so far?

I'm not invested yet. First ep I liked bc of its Western genre tropes, Ep2-3 felt like filler and could've been combined, Ep4 felt obvious and ridiculously twee. I'll keep checking it out bc Herzog's somewhere in there being villainous and that's enough to get me there! but thought this series would be a little more fun, there should be more characters and plot overlap, it feels oddly absent and keeps pausing, like with the Nolte-voiced awful sfx character.
