Easily the theatrical for me. The director's cut completely kills the ending and the added subliminal faces are just silly.

The ending on the the DC is like shockingly bad to me - like ending on a comic note - I don't get it at all tbh.

Theatrical by far.

I actually slightly prefer the directors cut. I do see where people are coming from with the ending change, but it worked for me. Also, some of the additional scenes / extended moments within the film really added something as far as I'm concerned. Honestly though, the film is in my Top 10 of all time, so I can sit down and happily watch either version without giving a shit.

I loved the faces in the DC and the spider walk scared the shit out of me the first time, but the shock factor goes away quick and the ending was dumb.

I don't even remember the differences tbh. What changed? This is just off the top of my head so may be missing a few: Good additions:The added tests on Regan which shows Burstyn at the end of her rope and again trying man before God - that's the whole movie to me since it doesn't work as horror. If he just did this addition, it would be an improved film. But........ Negligible addition but leaning bad:The spider walk scene - creepy as fnck and a great idea but makes no sense really - first of all Regan leaves the room (which is what made the original so sad, a little girl trapped) which is wtf-ish and nothing comes of it either - it's just random - there's no additional scene like this and no connection to what happens in the next scene ........we as the audience see way too much here - it's a very cool idea that doesn't match the film - it's like the French plantation scene in AN in a way (at least conceptually). Very Bad Additions: The "faces" that pop up quickly and look very bad to me - distracting and jarring. The ending is extended and goes on way too long and changes the tone to something bordering on silly comedy. The rhythm is wayyyyy off. I also think in the opening he throws in a shot in Washington which is jarring too but may just be to connect the desert sequences from before to now but who doesn't get the desert connection to the story - why cut away from that - but this I think is relatively minor and just an insert. There's some other scenes added too that I can't recall atm.

Reading through this, I'm now realizing the only version I've seen (and loved) is the Director's Cut. I'm curious now to see the Theatrical Cut since the "faces" are what horrified me the most about this movie when I saw it, but if they're not even in the Theatrical Cut, makes me wonder how I'll feel about it...
