That's a well known fact, actually.

It doesn't bother me much - "talent borrows, genius steals" - what bothers me more is that none of his films (haven't seen OUATIH yet) resembles real life at all. How are you going to rank him as a GOAT level director when he's not really interested in film as something reflective of life but rather just other movies? To me people misunderstand him completely - he's a collaborative artist or was - stephen mentioned his editor dying but it's actually much more than that to me - it's when he had Sundance overseeing Reservoir Dogs or Roger Avary helping on the Pulp Fiction script......that's why his first 2 are by far his 2 best to me (so far anyway)........when no one could say "No" to him (after Pulp Fiction) he became his own "Yes" man......the films subsequent to PF, to me, are not the same thing or as good as those two - not close to it imo.

I've never had too much of an issue with his homages / borrowing / stealing or whatever folks want to call it. I primarily watch film to be entertained. The appreciation of film as an artform will always be very important, but secondary to me. Having a favourite filmmaker of mine to be all that artistically original, has never been too much of an issue in my eyes. I love the vast majority of Tarantino's films first and foremost because they are entertaining as hell. I enjoy watching them. I'll let those he steals from do the thinking about how much of a good or bad thing it is.

I don't really mind either. Actually his borrowing/ stealing it's something he usually admits.
What I mind is his films are really entertaining and I don't think he hasn't done good work after PF. Yes, my favs of him are RD and PF but I love Basterds and really enjoyed Kill Bill and Django (haven't seen Once Upon yet).

Oh honey, I thought everyone already knew this. He's one of those 'postmodern' artists like Madonna, who swiped most of her visual image from Dietrich.

Come on, Ray ... anyone who’s seen at least one Tarantino film and at least one non-Tarantino film is aware of this.

You didn't notice? I mean it's been right there since the very beginning, but after returning from his post Jackie Brown hiatus he hasn't even been slightly subtle about it. Literally all he has made are pastiches of other peoples work, at least nowadays he seems to embrace it openly.

This is what QT is famous for. Taking scenes from famous films and use exactly as they are. Ppl even praise him for stealing. How…? HE GIVES NODS!!! QT doesn’t hide his sources. He doesn’t blend it with style. He exposes it. Embraces it. He embraces that it’s not his, but every time we think of Tarantino, we think of those scenes he made famous. It becomes his style.
One good example of stealing/copying is from The Untouchables. I’m talking about the scene where baby’s cart rolls down the Union Station stairss. Cut that scene out and you will still be left with the same movie. It’s there as an admiration Brian De Palma had for the Battleship Potemkin. A real respectful nod. De Palma becomes famous for that scene.
There is a thin line between inspiration and stealing. Tarantino and Palma’s intention was pure and their results give nods to the original works. That’s how you steal like a great artist. If QT was a painter, i'm sure Picasso would approve.
