Me being the only one to vote for Benning to be nominated is strange to me The Report is opening this week here. At first the theater said next week, but I guess I lucked out. Anyhow I feel like Amazon really dropped the ball there because they probably could have got Bening in if nothing else. I feel that Amazon dropped the ball with The Aeronauts too. I don't think Jones would have had a chance to actually win like some had said who got to see it early, but I think she had a chance to be nominated at least, and the techs looked really good too. At least they seem to be doing well with Honey Boy, although I don't think LaBeouf has much of a chance at an Oscar nomination this year because I feel he still has to atone more in some voters' eyes, but I'm not sure where they go after this year. If they do go the Netflix model, they really need to commit to it like Netflix does by pumping in a lot of money to the campaigns for their films which they've failed to do this year with The Report and The Aeronauts. If they decide to do a mix of both, maybe they should go for Emmys for the films that they don't want to give a theatrical release to because they do run successful Emmy campaigns, and at least that might help their films get some attention instead of now where I feel like no one cares about The Report or The Aeronauts unless they're fans of the actors. I just don't get why they wouldn't at least promote both films to get people to watch their streaming service if nothing else because if people don't know that the films exist, they can't seek them out to watch them on streaming either. Even if both films are featured in the banner of recommended or new release movies, if people don't know what they are, it's unlikely that they're going to want to watch them unless they're fans of the actors, or they're bored and have nothing else to watch or do.

Me being the only one to vote for Benning to be nominated is strange to me To me she seemed like a shoo-in a couple months ago sight unseen but only because it looked like a showy role, but there's been practically no buzz about her at all and that was before J-LO looked like a longshot at best (definitely not the case anymore). The picture will become clearer in December and I'm sure Bening will pick up some nods, somewhere. I guess it helps that Amazon really only has this and Aeronauts on their slate but neither has been generating any buzz which is strange to me. The Report seems like a no-brainer for awards but again...no buzz. At best Aeronauts will likely up some tech nods (although it did just strike out with the makeup guild) and The Report might start drumming up some support for the screenplay and Bening but I'm not confident in it right now. Who knows what'll happen. I know I'll enjoy it anyways. Amazon really dropped the ball this year. Netflix is going to dominate.

as of November 11th
1. Laura Dern, Marriage Story 2. Jennifer Lopez, Hustlers 3. Margot Robbie, Bombshell 4. Zhao Shuzhen, The Farewell 5. Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
I'm still holding out for Smith though she might only get a BAFTA/SAG or maybe Globe. I still feel like she's a major threat but suddenly the race has gotten more crowded. There's also Pugh and Bening.
As for ScarJo...I don't see it. She's not scoring two nods in the same year.

Me being the only one to vote for Benning to be nominated is strange to me Bening's one of those figures in Hollywood that people who follow awards season think are beloved more than they probably are. I think she's liked, but I never got the sense she was as "overdue" as her reputation around her and on other boards was. The Report puts me in mind of Truth, that Cate Blanchett vehicle from 2015 that a lot of people were predicting Redford for. Something that might be timely, but not necessarily what the Academy gravitates toward. Combine that with Amazon seemingly taking a mulligan this year (bailing on The Aeronauts when early buzz was really strong) and Adam Driver going to be getting more attention for Marriage Story, I just don't really see a path for Bening because, even with as weak as this year is for the category, there are several potential nominees who have more in the corner than a perceived "overdue" status.

So, to me I don’t really believe in “buzz” in November and if there is such a thing it’s vetoed the second awards and nominations start to be announced.

Quite a bit of positivity about Robbie.

Observation:
Having just seen Marriage Story, Laura Dern is going to win an Oscar by doing the exact Laura Dern line readings you would expect in the most Laura Dern ways conceivable. Alan Alda who does something very similar (as Alan Alda!) will just be eating dinner in front of his TV on Oscar night.

I'm sure they'll invite Alda so he can be on stage when Marriage Story wins Best Picture.
