Won’t Fox/Disney be lumping their FYC campaigns together this year?

Thanks for starting this thread Zeb31! This post has the release dates listed for the Netflix contenders, but I can't find them anywhere else. I don't have a reason to doubt this person and these seem to make sense, but I'm not 100% at all. And per Dirk doing detective work, we know that Marriage Story is coming out December 6, so that falls right in line with the other Netflix release dates. Maybe The Last Thing He Wanted is going to be pushed until next year, or maybe Netflix isn't going to do a campaign for it? It's been deleted, but in the tweet about what was likely in at Venice, only Marriage Story, The Pope, and The Laundromat were listed. I guess we'll see tomorrow if it's going to TIFF instead. From the clues that Cameron Bailey listed earlier, it seems like Netflix is taking its slate of hopefuls to at least two of the big festivals because I don't think Bailey mentioned any of their films at all in his clues. So I'm guessing that they're not World and/or North American Premieres. There's also Kajillionaire which seems to be hinted at here as going to TIFF in the tweet below about some get money. I thought it was Annapurna, but I guess Megan Ellison is only producing because it says United Artists is the distributor. Then, there's Bad Education and The Personal History of David Copperfield which don't have distributors right now.

I guess we can add Radioactive to the list since it's closing TIFF. Not really sure what Amazon's strategy is since they also have The Aeronauts and Seberg formerly Against All Enemies as Best Actress contenders. They all seem baity to me; although, I think Radioactive seems the baitiest.

Updated with TIFF titles. All of those look solid, but I think I'll wait for an official announcement. I almost left all of them listed as N/A because even with The Laundromat the only thing I found to go off of was IMDb and that can be edited by anyone. We'll probably get the actual dates pretty soon, so it's no problem. Yeah, I was actually counting on The Last Thing He Wanted and The King to pop up at TIFF, tbh. Both have been in post since August 2018 according to IMDb and Netflix managed to land 4 nominations for Dee Rees's last film, so that one especially should've been a no-brainer. Will keep an eye on both of them, especially if The King is supposed to premiere this October. I'm pretty sure Annapurna and UA have a partnership going on. Both Booksmart and Bernadette are officially listed on sources like BOM as United Artists releases, but they're referred to elsewhere as part of Annapurna's roster. IMDb lists both as distributors for Kajillionaire (which didn't make the initial TIFF batch, apparently). Added all of them. It's so weird, IMDb says Radioactive has been completed since May 2018. Have they been sitting on it that long? Same with Lucy in the Sky, which is listed as being completed since September 2018 but apparently underwent reshoots after that and wasn't announced for either festival today, and Benh Zeitlin's follow-up to Beasts of the Southern Wild titled Wendy, which apparently wrapped in February 2018 but which we've heard absolutely nothing about thus far.

I’m really digging through these and watching trailers/reading info... I’m beginning to wonder if maybe the film we should be keeping our eye on to steal Best Picture is “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”. If it’s a hit with audiences, which by the amount of times I’ve seen it share don mh Facebook homepage, it probably will be, it may have the “Green Book” effect of being the nice movie that everyone likes that will probably sit #2 or #3 on most people’s ballots that will sway the 5% system in its favor. It’s also a film by Marielle Heller whose last film was a slam dunk but was overlooked as a film outside the performers. Usually if a filmmaker can strike lightning again, the wider Academy can take much stronger notice (Affleck in 2012). Plus Hanks seems to be a big contender and he may drive the film with him. Plus they ignored Mr. Rogers last year which everyone knows was ridiculous omission by the Doc branch.
The only other possibilities I see are The Report, Just Mercy, Marriage Story (although there still may be a Netflix bias), The Irishman (given Scorsese seems like the best director threat, and by some miracle, Jojo Rabbit.

Yes, it seems like it had a lot of potential considering Iannucci's success with Veep, and how his films usually get lots of praise for their screenplays at least. It also had a great cast, and seemed like it would have potential in costumes and production design too.

This year is so weird: it feels like FSL has nothing, A24 has tons of movies that usually fight for the same spot (the artsy, tiny movie) so they might all cancel each other, Sony has 3 movies that could potentially hit hard the BP race, same goes for Netflix...

I do worry about A24 too. Last year they barely promoted anything which seemed weird for a studio that had a great job of promotion before that even winning Best Picture over a huge favorite. Now they have four contenders this year, and they all have things going for and against them, but I agree that they might all cancel each other out especially if A24 doesn't put in much effort like they did last year.

The Farewell and The Lighthouse feel like they'd be prime films to push, as there wouldn't really be any overlap (the former in Picture and the female acting categories, the latter for Director and the men). A24 feels like they've just stopped caring after Moonlight, as though they "got theirs."

Updated Seberg and Richard Jewell, both now scheduled for December 13.
That leaves only Amazon's Radioactive and IFC's The Truth as festival premieres that have distributors but are yet to be scheduled, though I imagine both will be pushed to 2020 considering the former underwhelmed and the latter is an arthouse play.
And I guess that's pretty much it for this season, right? Other than the Eastwood (which was always on the fence anyways) I don't think there's anything else that can shake things up. Varda by Agnès could've made a play for Best Documentary like Visages Villages but is yet to be picked up; nothing that wasn't already on the radar broke out at the fall festivals; and none of the unscreened titles that have been in post for a while (Campos, Kaufman, Zhao, Zeitlin) look like they'll be surfacing any time soon.

For all of the controversy surrounding Joker, it's still manageable and WB is clearly working that PR machine on it. I don't think they'd switch gears at the last minute for Clint, especially with how his last few films have been received.
