Very big deal - and I mentioned this in the Kidman thread and the best actors across all 3 mediums thread too.
This is what older great actors/actresses do - how many queens has she played? She won an Oscar and Tony for the same queen in 2 different roles........she's played a lot of Russians........she's played Russians without the accent! ........she's played more sexually adventurous roles than anyone...........and now she's playing the most sexually discussed/talked about queen.
I love Helen Mirren, already championed her based on reading the book The Good Liar ........and this looks like a career summation. Very excited to see how this plays out.......

"I knew what I was doing" - watching this trailer again I think this is the key line (spoken without ANY accent attempt - God Bless Her ) and a line that sums up her GOAT level body of work too. Good actors play parts - the very best link the parts thematically. One of Mirren's great strengths is to play someone who is painfully smart yet misunderstands the playing field she's navigating. For example this piece is directed by the guy that directed some Prime Suspect which is totally that and which she conveyed with high level genius and you can see many overlaps between what she thinks she's doing and the ground shifting underneath her. Men control the ground and not because she's a lesser but because her intellect often betrayed her at the expense of something else. It is something she often does whether in small roles (Long Good Friday) or big ones (The Cook....The Thief.....) or in her signature roles like Prime Suspect. As far as I know Mirren never played Marie Antoinette but that would have been too perfect if she had .........and Catherine in some ways is that too - misjudging the totality of her reign and her personal life, her professional life and general public life (and faith) and how they get all tangled up in ways she can't forsee.

Whoa....
I wanna see this more than any film released this year. No joke. Looks way better than hackjob Les Miserables, dunno how Tom Hooper got that to pass in the medium of cinema, guessing he used Hathaway's face to slightly nudge the studio heads.
But yeah, looks like some violent war stuff going on giving me serious lord of the rings vibes. And there's Mirren. The undeniable Mirren. There's not many actresses more talented than her.

Best trailer yet - really getting into the sexuality and how big the canvas is here far more than previous ones........looks major and the GOAT-level Mirren of course looks well.........GOAT level. Score, production design, costumes etc. seem fairly dazzling.

Have any of you watched this?
I watched the first episode and found it tediously boring.

I watch one episode, and I'd seen old fashioned, like an european miniseries of the 70s and 80s, like Rousseau, Voltaire, Montesquieu.- Fortunately not as a bad as Peter the Great, Young Catherine (both with Nessa Redgrave), or Catherine the great (w. CZJ) Still interesting, but only likeable for the ones that like miniseries like I Claudius.-
