I know you have European Vacation and Vegas Vacation, but you rarely hear a good word said about them. Vacation and Christmas Vacation on the other hand, have at least reasonably positive reputations. So we'll choose between those.
For me this is a no-brainer, as I've never liked Christmas Vacation at all, whereas I did get a fair few laughs from the original. I sort of feel like the overall result might swing the opposite way.

I do not like Vacation. It's one of those beloved comedies that doesn't register at all for me.
So it's Christmas Vacation by default, as it's actually made me laugh.
Do The Road Warrior and Fury Road next, btw.

Vacation is funny. Christmas Vacation is not. And the latter is pretty badly made! An easy choice.

Easy for me as well, but the other way around. Vacation is only solid, but not a great comedy, while Christmas Vacation is extremely funny, especially in the first half. So the latter one.

Vacation. Its the greatest road trip film. Ever. My sides always hurt from laughing. Classic 35 years on, and will always be.
Christmas is hilarious, but its not the greatest Christmas film.

I enjoy both films immensely, I'll even go to bat for European and Vegas Vacation as I find those movies enjoyable afternoon watches, but Christmas Vacation has become a bit of a bi-yearly tradition for me of sorts, so it gets my vote.

Christmas Vacation is classic. Never cared for any others in the series.

Easy for me as well, but the other way around. Vacation is only solid, but not a great comedy, while Christmas Vacation is extremely funny, especially in the first half. So the latter one. I'm not sure if it's because Vacation was one of those movies that had been hyped by a lot of people before I actually saw it, and I usually find those to be underwhelming in the end, but I agree it was solid but not a particularly great comedy. I mean I can certainly relate to the road trip from hell aspect, but I don't know I just didn't find some of it funny. On the other hand, I find Christmas Vacation to be hilarious, and I think that does a better job of capturing the whole trapped in hell thing. I enjoy both films immensely, I'll even go to bat for European and Vegas Vacation as I find those movies enjoyable afternoon watches, but Christmas Vacation has become a bit of a bi-yearly tradition for me of sorts, so it gets my vote. Yeah, if Vacation is on, I usually won't watch it, but Christmas Vacation I have to watch at least once during the holidays.

Yeah, if Vacation is on, I usually won't watch it, but Christmas Vacation I have to watch at least once during the holidays. It's an incredibly rewatchable film too. Love the dinner scene. All the characters have great interactions with each other, and the comic timing is perfect throughout.
