Let's see if this bad boy can catch on... Like the "last move you watched thread" except for performances... For me... watched Nameless Gangster last week for Choi Min-sik... but ended up being blown away by Ha Jung-woo's calmly badass and effortlessly cool performance.

Gould and Segal in California Split. They have the best comedic chemistry I've ever seen in a film.

I'm still saying Bob Dylan in Rolling Thunder Revue as Bob Dylan is the best performance I've seen this year......... But last great one was Cassavettes in Dirty Dozen on a re-watch a couple days back..........though Lee Marvin and everyone else is pretty great too.

Nicole Kidman in "The Portrait of a Lady" - apparently she put so much into her performance that he had to spend two weeks in bed after filming because she was so emotionally drained. You definitely see the receipts on the screen. Seeing her go from a free-spirited woman full of youthful joy to someone who seems to have the weight of the world on her shoulders was quite something.

Jodie Foster's god-tier performance in Silence of the Lambs (rewatch) She and Hopkins ate up those closeups like a liver with fava beans and nice chianti.

It was about a month ago now, but Harry Dean Stanton in Lucky would fit the bill.

I recently finished watching Breaking Bad which was on my watchlist for ages and I think Cranston's performance will go down as one of my all time favorites EVER! Like, Wow!

Mitchum in The Friends of Eddie Coyle. I recently rewatched the film and I forgot how heartbreaking his performance is.

Watched "Camille Claudel" today...Once again floored by Isabelle Adjani who does an astonishing job of portraying Claudel's gradual descent into a very disturbed inner state and of showing her endless passion for her work.

The movie has that great metaphor of her getting the clay too - clawing at the earth and then metaphorically how she's clawed on the inside out too - the madness/metaphor.......it's just a brilliant film.

I'm ashamed to admit that I wasn't a big Mitchum fan years ago. Now the guy is in my top ten.

Just re-watched Raising Cain... where John Lithgow's performance should obviously be considered iconic. The movie probably would've been disastrous without him (but of course some would argue that it is disastrous with him ). Crazy how well he toes the line between batshit, hilarious, and even a little bit genuinely creepy at times... Arguably the best performance directed by De Palma...

Re-watched the great Philippe Noiret in The Judge and the Assassin (1976) and got 2 great ones: A very wise, perceptive and knowing performance - sort of reminiscent of the disappointing Professor and The Madman but done right. Michel Galabru is arguably even better as the madman here. Noiret with a very young Isabelle Huppert from the film:

Well two Seasons into The Leftovers and it's time to mention Ann Dowd. I don't even know if she is in Season 3, but her work is already Supporting Actress All-Time worthy.

Catching up on some old Sopranos and I'd say Annabella Sciorra was a lot better and sadder and scarier than I had previously recalled. Now she isn't the first person I could have named on The Sopranos but like I said.......easy to miss and some special work there.
