awwww too bad The Rider missed it. Otherwise that's an amazing lineup! The Rider initially made it into my lineup until I remembered that I forgot about my actual category winner - Cold War.

First Reformed’s script is what works against it.

First Reformed’s script is what works against it. the script is the best thing about it. People can compare it to Winter Sleep all they want but Schrader has taken this idea of crisis of faith and political turmoil and the radicalizing effects of isolation (an obvious thematic callback to Travis Bickle but this is a whole new context) and put it in instantly recognizable language and a depressing contemporary context. Not a false note in the whole screenplay and it tackles subjects that most films haven't touched, certainly not with the depth of First Reformed. The script is a masterpiece, OKAY RYAN

Oh goddddd Burnham again. I actually read thru his original script (called The Coolest Girl In The World) where he had even more sexual elements. Yikes.
How about a script that not just any ol' 25 y'o creep could write. Bodied..... a provocative, hilarious, deceptively smart and complex look at the subculture of battle-rapping - race, PC culture, literal language and its implications, contradictions, controversy, its lyric Art..... not interested at all in a recuperative cultural ideal, it's spiced, audacious, and all the better for it.

holy fuck that adapted lineup is giving me chills. Would have preferred Disobedience (longshot I know) or Leave No Trace but ALL these picks are deserved as hell. Great job, MA!

Anyone hating on Eighth Grade should be legally required to go back and repeat middle school. C'mon now.

I thought that it was for the top three best performances of the year.
I'm deeply sorry.

hello, Rachel McAdams?? Disobedience, Game Night. Come on guys Thank god for Weisz or this would have been a boring sausage fest. Phoenix had a decent year but Sisters Brothers should have disqualified him alone. Probably the laziest performance he's ever given. Reilly acted circles around him.
