Its cool that you're a Yankee fan instead of Red Sux. Always assumed they had all of New England. I’m from Connecticut, and it’s basically 50/50 there. Most of my family are Red Sox fans, though. But... but... but... they aren't Pats fans, right?!

Norwich VT, absolutely. It's very peaceful and quiet, and living in a town environment is good, especially when you're a supposed aspiring writer like myself. The only downside is that it can be a real hassle to commute from one place to another.

You have to go to NH to get groceries, though, right? The only downside of VT is how remote it is (unless you live in or near Burlington)...

Well there's a convenient store where I live, but yes I do most of my shopping in New Hampshire, which is why I'm thankful I live right next to Hanover. I either take the bus or I can just walk there, which is good for exercise. It's often very beautiful during the summer, and extremely cold during the winter, and the people are nice as well. It's a great place to live.

Definitely. Live in a suburb NW of Chicago. Really enjoy the suburbs to the city but I’m pretty close to the highway so it’s nice to be able to get to Chicago (or even Milwaukee) rather easily when needed. Plenty of other cities I’m sure I’d love to live, but home is home.

Born and raised in Ontario and while the weather can be extreme from the bitter winters to the nearly unbearable summers -- I do adore the changing seasons. I'm in a university city with a big focus on technology and the arts, with so many independent and big chain movie theaters at my finger tips. I love the museums, the restaurants, the parks... there's so much to enjoy. I'm a big fan.

Wanted to bump... I'm currently thinking of buying a home, but just not sure if I want to feel so permanently tied... As I mentioned upthread, I have a very frustrating love-hate relationship with my state.

I mean jax is fine I guess. Nothing wrong with this town but nothing special about it either. Biggest city in the USA by land area but nothing to really show for it. There’s nothing about this town that is unique or stands out except the beaches and having an nfl team that’s good maybe once a decade. It’s a black hole of mediocrity. Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with this city but nothing really special about it either. It’s kinda just…there. It exists

Prices haven’t gone down too much but inventory has so it’s still very competitive. Plus interest rates have gone through the roof. worth exploring though.

Taipei. It's alright. I am always thinking about moving somewhere else though. I prefer not being tied to one place.

I live in Rio de Janeiro, born and raised here, but I don't.
The city never recovered from events that happened before I was born, hell, even before my parents were in some cases: the transfer of the capital to Brasília, the military coup of 1964, which resulted in the city being boycotted due to being the area where the opposition did better (part of the reason for the transfer was exactly there were always heavy protests here and Brasília was designed for them to be easier to be avoided or crushed); the boycott included merging the city proper with the State of Rio de Janeiro that surrounded it, which resulted in having less resources (since before, every state and federal tax collected here would only be used in the city proper).
There was much hype about a revival in the 2000's/early 2010's with the Olympics and World Cup, but I and everyone with a brain knew what would happen- rampant corruption (the governor of the state at the time is doing more than 400 years for corruption, and he's not the only one), money wasted in white elephants and projects that clearly had no reason to exist, etc. And afterwards there's an even bigger feeling of decadence and abandonment than before.
Now we have all the problems mentioned by other posters in their cities, except worse- an open sewer, terrible traffic, very high costs of living, overcrowding, etc. I'm thinking about moving for quite some time, just didn't had the chance.

Last year would have been a resounding no. It's a yes now that I live in New York

I live in Rochester NY. It's located between the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario. I absolutely love it here. Home of Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglas and George Eastman. We have three historic movie houses. One of them plays mainly classic films from the 20s-50s.
@tyler - Where are you currently living and where do you want to buy a house? Next year, I am probably going to purchase either a condo or a townhouse.

I live in North Carolina, and would be buying here, as well. The political landscape here is really quite toxic, but beyond that, it is a genuinely lovely place. Plus, my family, friends, and job are all here, and I've never lived anywhere else. I'm really not sure what the future has in store for me. I'm glad to hear that so many users here love living in New York. It does seem like a wonderful place to live.

My brother went to UNC for grad school and my cousin (now deceased) use to live in the Charlotte area. It's a wonderful state to visit. If I ever moved out of NY, North Carolina and Virginia would be the my top choices. Politically the state seems very divided.
NY is quite a diverse state. The "city" is the most densely populated. Upstate section (non-NYC) is very country, rural and full of wonderful parks to spend one to two hours in peace and quiet. Camping is quite popular too. It does get a bit "snowy" between January and April, but the rest of the time, the weather is wonderful to walk and enjoy the flowers. We don't have to worry about hurricanes, earthquakes tornadoes, or floods.

Huge convoy supporters and massive racism in my area which I got to see firsthand at counter protests. People are dying in the emergency room because our hospitals are overrun and short-staffed. Our union is about to strike but I'm on another stress leave. I will never own a home. I can't afford to drive to work. It's exhausting going to therapy when nobody else does. I've had to cut all my family out of my life... I have two important friends which is the only thing keeping me here. No, I do not like where I live. But where is even good anymore?

it’s pretty good. lots of parks to visit (namely one that’s by the river that runs through the middle of the city and has a bunch of sweet little cafes nearby). only an hour drive away from the rocky mountains and some of the most beautiful sceneries that earth has to offer (such as jasper and the columbia icefields). allows me to go on day trips for snowboarding during the winter season. lots of my friends live here (some of whom i grew up with since kindergarten) and it’s just a two hour drive from my hometown where my family lives.
the cost of living is steadily rising though to the point where homes are ridiculous and it’s harder to get by with basic needs. it’s also in the most redneck province of canada too which sucks as i have to be around a lot of questionable comments. like cheesecake said though, i’m sure this kind of stuff is everywhere.

But where is even good anymore? Yeah... There is no such thing as the "perfect place," unfortunately.
