LYNCH!!!! About goddamn time! Studi and Wertmuller are also inspired picks, and I love Geena, too.

Congratulations!
Lynch is the heavyweight here. But Wertmüller and Studi? Like them both to different degrees (kind of love Studi; hoped there could be some traction for him when Hostiles was announced), but I think there would have been more urgent candidates to consider. Recently watched a doc about Wertmüller, and she seemed to be as sharp as ever, but I'm not sure she's even considered to be that great a filmmaker nowadays. But that's obviously always an evolving thing.
But wasn't it finally time for von Sydow or Trintignant (who looks really frail these days)? Or Ullmann? Deneuve? Belmondo? Holbrook? Boorman?...

It's about time Lynch gets an Oscar, honorary or otherwise.

I still think deleting the honorary Oscars from the main ceremony was a mistake... it's how most great directors win their Oscars (Hitchcock, Welles, Renoir, Ray, Wajda, Hawks, Antonioni, Bergman, Altman, Fellini, Godard, Varda, Lynch etc). These were epic moments. If it's about time, get rid of the worst category of all-time aka best song which takes up like 30 minutes and problem solved.
But anyway, happy for Lynch, Wertmüller and Studi. Now give it to von Sydow and Ullmann please...

I'd rather see some great filmmakers receive proper tribute during such a heavily watched and anticipated ceremony than a stupid dance routine or pizza giveaways and such. I am too happy for the recepients and that the Governors ceremony exists at all but I do have to say that I find it pretty unpleasant that most of the guests are there just to pimp out their new movies with awards potential. The event should be about the careers and achievements of the winners, not some campaign stop for thirsty award hopefuls. Yeah, I'm sure Jennifer Lopez has so much respect for Lina Wertmüller's oeuvre.

Oprah was like...59 when she got hers. I miss this being at the show itself, but I guess they get to hand out more this way.

Isn't Gena too young for this Nobody's too young for a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. And I mean, she's 63 so...
