I read Damon had more of the lead role in Ford v Ferrari, but that might be based on how they're billed because someone else said that Bale has more of a leading role.
I think that Damon will go leading though, and Bale supporting based on billing, and the fact that I don't think there's anyway they'll both be pushed lead. I think Sony can get away with it with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, maybe, because DiCaprio and Pitt are both such big stars, and they were first out of the gate, and OUATIH will likely be a bigger hit than FvF.
Even if Bale and DiCaprio both go leading, I don't see a win for either win right now. DiCaprio had a lot of praise, but I don't think it was enough to win a second so soon. While I think FvF will do well critically, I don't know how its awards run will be. Probably more than Rush, but I don't think it will be in contention for any big wins because it will be overshadowed by OUATIH, The Irishman, and probably a few other films.

Possible - the male nominees look across the field like makeup awards heaven - where you have multiple nominees who have never won that people would be pulling for (if the films deliver) - Damon, Pitt, Dafoe, even geezers like McKellen.
Bale who should have won last year is a fascinating case among modern actors because no UK actor has ever - ever!- won 2 Oscars where 1 of the wins is also for lead except DDL (ie Michael Caine has 2, Ustinov has 2 but none for lead etc).........think about that and its kind of amazing. That's what he came close to last year.....
I don't see anything in the reviews for OUATIH that suggest an acting win except as a career, you're sexy and nice!, win for Pitt (and that's stretching it), no way a win for DiCaprio. Oscar winners especially in BA tend to have some meat on the role - the reviews for OUATIH are not that good to me - actually read the reviews and there are bad signs all over the place.......they're funny, they're movie stars, it'll make a ton of money because wtf else is their to see this Summer........that to me makes it the American Hustle of 2019, everybody admits it's good and at the end they want to go get a bite to eat........yawn.......I didn't see one review - not ONE!- that suggested there is any steak to go with that sizzle that QT is selling.

Yes they will compete.
Also some of Damon, Dafoe, McKellen, De Niro, Banderas.
Pitt and Damon are probably leads but they may end up in the supporting lot.

This silly take just shows why no one should listen to you when it comes to QT films. You've said before you only thought his first 2 movies were great, which is a ridiculous statement imho, so it's safe to say this'll be the 7th Tarantino film in a row you're gonna be DEAD WRONG about.

I said they were the only 2 that are GREAT and I actually like Hateful 8 a bit too - thumbs up for that one - so if you're going to quote me do it right please - use the Search function.
Sorry for having my own opinions on films and stuff on a movie board, and sorry it upset you. Um............?

Sorry for having my own opinions on films and stuff on a movie board, and sorry it upset you. Um............? Fair enough. You're right, I probably overreacted a bit. It was a ROUGH af weekend for me, and I might have been in too much of a fighting mood. I just find it very disappointing when someone who has like an 80% batting average of being correct (in a board that, while it has its share of smart chaps, I often find it crawling with opinions so breathtakingly moronic they're almost offensive) is so completely & stubbornly misguided on a subject that's dear to my heart. I kinda get where you're coming from, but I just think it's a 100% misguided take. Not too mention waaay too melodramatic! But your last sentence was completely right. ITS JUST OPINIONS, and no one agrees with anyone 100% of the time. My bad, let's move on. No need to unintentionally start some silly beef when I'm sure you'll be doing a great job dismantling one of scrudpup's idiotic takes in the near future and putting a smile in my face. 😉

No worries at all - hope your weekend got better. Basically what happens on a board with this many dudes on a subject like movies which can be pretty divisive anyway - it always turns into a latent homosexuality thing whether it means to or not - think about it - for example what does pupdurcs ever say on here that doesn't more or less boil down to "Whose wang is bigger Pacino's or Washington's?" (answer, Pacino's because he's got the triple crown, duh). Anyway, QT can explain it better than me anyway......

Why are we predicting Bale again? we didn't even get a trailer of the movie.

Why are we predicting Bale again? we didn't even get a trailer of the movie. Well we don't have much of anything to go on in terms of predicting anything right now. Still, he's playing a real person, and often that has you comfortably on the start to the nomination brick road. In fact, if we stick purely to Bale, all his nominations are for playing real people.
Now that I think about it, if Bale gets nominated this year he'll be the most nominated male of the decade. Streep has six, while Bale is tied on four with Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and perhaps someone else I'm forgetting.

Streep will get another one or two this year.... Maybe she gets nominated without being in a movie, who knows anymore.

A fair chunk of the posters here on our board called called Movie Awards would be interested. I expect fans of Bale, fans of DiCaprio and fans of both might care. Also, I would expect Bale and DiCaprio themselves probably care, along with their agents and management and all those kinds of people. I expect their friends and family would probably care too. The teams behind both productions would probably be pleased for them as well, as nominations mean further interest in the films themselves. I actually think quite a lot of people care.

At this moment I think Bale will go supporting, but if he goes lead (where he belongs as far as I can tell) there's certainly a chance both end up being nominated. DiCaprio is no way winning again so soon and after reading the reviews only reinforces my opinion. But Hollywood loves Hollywood, so even if the competition is strong this year, I think he could make it to the last 5, especially if they push Pitt for a supporting nom.
I think both movies need to make some money. OUATIH probably will, FvF needs to I think to be considered for the main categories. But all signs show the studio thinks it has a winner on its hands, so chances are not bad.
Who has the better chances at the moment for a nomination (just guesswork)? I think DiCaprio, just to show him how much they love their "last" true movie star. I don't think Bale would win in lead. If some of the other contenders fail (De Niro, etc./maybe there's even a chance for Eddie Murphy this year...), then the dynamic will change of course.
So lets say, just hypothetically, the race ends up being between DiCaprio and Bale for a win in the lead category, then I think it's going to be Bale who's winning this, even in a Ford Focus. While looking at what's known about both projects, I probably end up liking DiCaprio's star turn more (even if my overall feeling towards Tarantino are iffy these days), but Bale's part (and the real story behind his character) seems more like an Oscar winning thing to me.

I hope they don't push Bale for supporting. Judging by the trailer he and Damon both look like leads with Bale's character having more focus and even has a wife and son.

Seriously doubt it. Hype around a film can get you nominated but winning is a whole different thing. Just ask Bradley Cooper about that.
Still going with Jonathan Pryce if The Pope lands this year.
